Scouts and leaders met at the Chino Hills State Park entrance to begin their 10 mile day hike. They hiked for 3 miles with an elevation gain of 750 feet before stopping for lunch. Along the trail, scouts learned about various types of plants, hiking tips, practiced navigation, ad how to manage time effectively all while practicing the Leave No Trace principles. This hike can also go towards certain requirements for rank advancement, the Hiking merit badge, and a Hiking activity award for native plants. Ms. Vee did a great job of planning this outing which will helps her towards earning her Woodbadge.

Scout Sunday
February 8, 2026
Scout Sunday is an annual tradition to honor the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. It marks a day for Scouts to attend services in uniform, demonstrate the "Scout is Reverent" law, and to thank chartered organizations. Troop 202 attended church at our chartered organization, Chino United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Our color guard participated in the service by posting colors and reading scripture during the service. We hosted the congregation afterwards in the social hall where we provided donuts, muffins, danishes, fruit and refreshments. It was a blessed day!

Red Mountain Campout
October 24 - 26, 2026
Scouts departed on Friday evening for a 3 hour drive up to the high desert. They enjoyed a weekend of dry camping where they were able to do archery, tomahawks, and model rocket launching. Scouts were also able to work on rank requirements. It was a busy but fun weekend at Red Mountain.
Our scouts spent a week down in San Diego on Mission Bay for summer camp! Fiesta Island is a waterfront-focused BSA summer camp that provides experiences in many areas. Scouts had fun working on merit badges like kayaking, motor-boating, fishing, welding, sailing, canoeing, swimming, lifesaving, fly fishing, photography and journalism. With 40+ different merit badges offered, there were several to chose from. Fiesta Island also provided a "Mariner's Program" for younger scouts which helped them on their trail to First Class. There were many fun activities in their "down time" like doing a nighttime kayak, enjoying campfire time, skits, troop spirit activities, hanging out and playing games, and watching the firework show from Sea World.

January found our scouts taking to the desert as they completed a 30-mile trek across the park over three days. Not only was it a great adventure but it will also qualify them for the 30-Mile Camelback HAT award.
In June, scouts set sail across the sea over to Catalina Island where they enjoyed a week long summer camp at Camp Emerald Bay. This camp is known for it's ocean-based top-tier aquatics programs. Scouts spent their week earning merit badges, camping on the beach under the stars, experiencing the war canoe, motor-boating, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, soaking in the sun and all that ocean camp life offers! Some of our scouts even earned the mile swim patch by successfully swimming a mile in the ocean. It was a great summer camp and we look forward to going back sometime soon!
On May 4th, Troop 202 helped out with the annual Let it Be 5k Walk/Run. The troop got up bright and early at 5:30 AM to help set up and cook breakfast for the runners running for the children the fundraiser supports. From mixing pancake mix 5 gallons at a time, to helping serve food or cutting fruit, the troop helped out however they could. As a reward, we also got the world famous Let it Be lemonade for helping out. This was a great outing and look forward to volunteering next year!
The last weekend of April, the troop went to Camp Emerson for the CIEC council annual Camporee. After a Friday night full of rain, hail, soaking wet tents and sleeping bags, and a long line for the warm air dryer, the next morning was sunny and beautiful and Troop 202 got to do opening flags for the camp. Saturday was full of many activities with our troop doing the troop tradition of the Troop 202 pancake relay. Our troop also won the award for most spirit and took home a trophy to remember. Overall, even with some rain, this was a great campout that will sure be remembered.
In early April, Troop 202 had our biannual Court of Honor to commemorate all the achievements of the scouts in the past six months. Each Court of Honor is also when the SPL term changes and we welcomed the new SPL into his new position. There was a lot of scouts ranking up and we also had two new eagle scouts in the troop. This was a great Court of Honor and congratulate all of our scouts for all of their great achievements.
In mid March, on Saint Patricks Day weekend, Troop 202 took a one night camping trip out to the local Chino Hills State Park. The main point of the trip was to have a ILST program where the older scouts teach the younger scouts about leadership in the troop. We had three stations that the scouts set up that involved games and discussions to help build scouts understanding of leaders and teamwork. Some older scouts also went out to do a conservation project for the State Park well the younger scouts stayed back playing cards and, a great part of the trip, corn hole. All in all, the troop had a great time on this outing.
On Presidents Day weekend, the troop took the long weekend to go out and climb in Joshua Tree National Park. We had a great climbing team to set up some routes and all of the scouts had a blast climbing them. Scouts also learned how to tie the different knots needed to climb, how to belay a climber, and how to self repel from a rock face. Overall, we had a great time climbing in Joshua Tree!
