Now tutoring virtually and in Courtenay, BC (I'M CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW STUDENTS)
Why are there different rates for different courses?
I greatly enjoy Math and Physics myself, and like variety and challenge in the courses I tutor. Hence am generally willing to tutor honours or higher level courses for reduced rates.
How Can Students Help Make Their Tutoring Experience a Success?
1) First, make sure we each have each other's cell phone numbers in case we have any troubles identifying or finding each other.
2) Bring your textbook and whatever material you would like to work on. As a tutor I help students learn material and improve their problem-solving abilities, however I don't have lessons planned out!
3) Let me know your goals for the tutoring session and how the course fits in with your educational and career objectives (If you are planning to major in mathematics we will probably want to focus on understanding more than if you are simply getting your last required math course out of the way)
4) Provide me with plenty of feedback (i.e. is it too slow? too fast? Do you need more examples or practice exercises? Would you prefer more or less emphasis on the theoretical underpinnings of the subject?).
5) Review the material/concepts we covered not long after our session to consolidate your understanding. You may want to try explaining it out loud to see if you understand it! Also, it is critical to put in the time between sessions as well!
