Now tutoring virtually and in Courtenay, BC (I'M CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW STUDENTS)
I have been a university-level tutor for math, physics, and other subjects for a dozen years now. Even before I started tutoring, I was helping lots of people with their math and physics! I'm passionate about working with students to produce outstanding results (see testimonials). I learn educational theory, use the best technology, refer students to excellent resources, and keep trying new things to be as effective as possible (see my tutoring style).
There is more information about my qualifications and background below. If you have further questions or are interested in scheduling a tutoring session, please feel free to contact me!
1) B.Sc. (Honours Math) from UBC (2004)
2) M.Sc. (Computational Physics) from UBC (2009)
3) Excellent Grades (91.8% Average in Math Courses)
1) I have been a TA since 2001, first for the Math Dept. and then for the Physics Dept. I have TAed up to 4th year courses.
2) I have tutored privately since 2001 as well (on and off - about a dozen years of experience in total). I tutor a large variety of courses, but greatly enjoy tutoring higher level math and physics as well as other subjects such as economics, computer science and statistics.
3) Even before I started tutoring, I was helping lots of people with their math and physics!
From a very young age I have been very interested in and developed an aptitude for mathematics and science. Throughout my grade-school years I would make up and solve math problems for fun.
In university I choose to pursue an honours math degree. I frequently helped classmates in mathematics and physics, which I quite enjoyed, so I decided to work as a tutor for the math department. I went on to tutor privately, which I have been doing continuously for about ten years now (with some breaks). I have learned first-hand a great deal about how people learn and how to be and effective tutor.
After graduating with a B.Sc. I went to China to learn Mandarin, then returned to Canada and completed a M.Sc. in physics. I then applied my mathematical aptitudes as an actuarial analyst in the pensions field for a year and a half. Currently I am planning to study artificial intelligence at UBC in the fall and am tutoring to pay the bills in the interim!
