So after that tidy up to the new 'Sites' a couple of years ago I've decided to have another rationalisation session. The navigation is sadly lacking 'Next' and 'Previous' which I did have but seems to have disappeared in the Google upgrade. So I'm plugging on with that slowly as it's quite gruelling to set up there being no apparent 'next/previous option in Sites and only has go to links which are specific pages. Anyway that's for me to figure out and I can only apologise about navigation on anything other than a PC.
I've also got so many pictures now as another method of display is required and I'm working on that too although Sies is quite inflexible and doesn't seem to support 'click to enlarge' anymore like it did originally.
I do have some new material and am working on it as and when.
One new link concerns the last Rembrandt and her propulsion. I've found a short video by Shell explaining how free piston gasifier turbines operate and added the link.

Well that's been a long time hasn't it? I must admit that I've fallen by the wayside a bit keeping this site maintained. Several years ago Google started moaning at me to move to their all new singing and dancing "Sites". I'd been having some ill health at the time and I wasn't really concentrating. I gave it a quick try and it looked dreadful and obviously needed a lot of tweaking. So I hung on and hung on until they finally gave notice that they were shutting the old version down. So I had to bite the bullet and run the conversion.
I'm afraid I didn't take to it and apart from editing a few odds and sods I thought I'd leave it till a rainy day.
Well there have been plenty rainy days since then and I've only just decided to revisit it and square it up a bit today. In doing so I've realised that I should have set the sharing option up to be public back when I converted it.
AH! So that means it's been offline since around 2019 and any interest it once had has long evaporated. So Many apologies and hopefully it will get some viewings again? I do hope so as think it's important that this sort of history is kept alive.
I've had a tidy up and am much happier with the "new" Sites than I was on first impression a few years back. I don't know how much more there is to add to it now but I will continue to publish any photos that are sent to me.

Well it's been a couple of years since I did anything with this site but have managed to gain some new material recently. I was contacted by Doug Howick who had sailed in Romanic as Sparky (R/O) on various voyages from her sea trials on 23rd Jul 1954 through to 28th May 1957. He has very kindly supplied me with quite a number of Romanic and her crew which can be found in 'People Gallery' and Romanic
Thank you very much Doug.
I also had a visit to London recently and looked up 31 Highbury Hill, home of Mr Frederic Bolton when he first embarked on his ship owning career. So there is a picture of this impressive house plus a couple of pictures of the old office building Ibex House which still looks wonderful in the Minories, City of London.

Continued fine weather, gardening and barbecues hampering progress with the site!
One new photograph in the People Gallery added of a group of officers sometime around 1919, although the company was wound up for 4 years in 1917, so I'm not entirely sure of the veracity of that date.
Completed 'The Yards' links to informative web sites concerning the American yards.

It's done, I just couldn't wait. All the 'booklet ships' are now together, picture or not, under a new heading of 'Early Fleet'.
Vessels with no picture have a suffix of 'np' and as someone said to me recently it being the war they probably didn't survive too long for many pictures to have been taken! I'll still keep looking but it's looking thin!
Changed some text in 'Early Fleet'
'Post Booklet Ships' is now 'Post War Builds'
Added a new image on 'Ore Carriers' of a Doxford control stand.
New 1st Hand added to (Ribera V) regarding Sammy's opinion of the Ruston generators with the addition of a "bloody windmill" (turbo charger).
New picture enlarged from booklet added to Rubens (I)
New picture of Rievaulx apprentice cabin added to 'Ore Carriers'
New picture of 2010 reunion added to 'People Gallery'
Got a new book from Chippy Chapman and am about to start scanning pictures and adding information in the next few days.
5th April 2011
I've decided to make some adjustments to the layout.
I originally intended the site to contain images of the Bolton fleet mentioned in the booklet, but soon realised it needed to be expanded to include all the company's vessels. In fact the site was originally based around the booklet which is why the 'Gallery' and 'Ships without Pictures' were so named.
However, I don't think I'm going to complete the gallery in the near future, if at all, and feel it's probably time to integrate both sections into a full list of the fleet up to the end of WWII.
This will mean moving the 6 remaining vessels up into the main list which will obviously mean links moving.
So basically I'm just going to spend some time tidying up.
Apologies in advance.
In fact, since this site is continually being developed, it makes sense to use the refresh button throughout your browsing.

Had an excellent link re The Redcar Mutiny sent to me for inclusion in 1st Hand for that vessel.
Reference is made in the booklet to vessels managed by Glovers, an associate company of Bolton and It's my intention to list those too as soon as I can.
