2019 Season:
State Play-in Game in Burley vs Madison 10-19-19
Game was delayed for 40 minutes because of lightning. Temperatures dropped and the wind really picked up. Play started with both teams playing back and forth. Boise had a few opportunities, but couldn’t put it in the net. Madison scored before half 0-1. Free kick by Toby missed Jack’s head and the goalie bobbled it, Thomas was right there to poke it in 1-1. Madison scored 2 more to go up 1-3. Penalty kick was awarded to Boise and Ian calmly buried it in the back of the net to tie the score 3-3. During the first Overtime Boise played hard, but no one scored. 2nd overtime Madison was given a penalty kick and scored knocking Boise out of a chance to go to State. Definitely not the result we wanted, but Boise players were a class act and represented the characteristics of Boise High to the end! #bravetothegrave

A couple through balls and over the top of the defense balls, but Boise couldn’t get on the end of them for a shot. Timberline goalie kicked the ball and it deflected off a defender. Tristan was there to run one v one with the goalie, but the Timberline defender grabbed his jersey and awarded Boise a free kick. Toby Caldara stepped up to take the kick and buried it fast and furious into the back of the net. 2-0 Second half started with a lot of pressure from Boise and several shots on goal from Liam McClain that went high and just outside the goal. Unfortunately, Timberline scored on a set play just outside the box. 2-1 But a short time later, on a sprinting run, Sawyer Luthy was brought down in the box for a Boise penalty kick and Ian Woodley scored the penalty kick. 3-1 Boise victory. Off to play in Burley against Madison for the play-in game to get into the State tournament.
Varsity District Game #3 vs Skyview 10-15-19

A big Save by Nick Black who fell on the ball to stop the advances of Skyview. One touch hit on goal by Thomas was just wide of the goal. Boise was crashing on the goal but the ball was scooped up by the goalie. An incredible save by Nick Black to finish out the first half tied at 0-0. Boise started the second half with several chances but couldn’t put any away in the net. A couple of scary chances by Skyview that hit off the side post, but didn’t go in-Keeping the score tied at 0-0. Unfortunately, Skyview scored. Varsity District Game #2 vs Borah 10-14-19
Game started with back and forth play from both teams. Toby Caldara dropped it into the middle for a header from Thomas Ryden, but the ball went right to the goalie. On the other end, Nick Black rolled onto the ball off a through ball from Borah. Great defensive stops from Luke Wallace, Nick Liebich, Toby Caldara and Sam Zimmer. Throw in from Sami that landed right in front of the goal, and Tristan almost got in on the end of it, but just missed it. Combination from Sawyer Luthy to Thomas Ryden to Jack Goode who buried it in the back of the net. Half ended 1-0 Boise. Second half started with Boise having most of the possession and several shots around the goal. Unfortunately, Borah got a penalty kick. Nick Black almost saved it with his hands, but the ball was barely over the line to tie the score at one a piece. 1-1 with 30 minutes left in the game. Beautiful through ball from Jack to a full sprinting Thomas who shot hard but hit the side post off the deflection from the goalie for a corner kick. A lot of back and forth play with Boise advancing and working hard on both ends of the field. Boise was awarded a penalty kick from a hand ball in the box-unfortunately, the goalie saved it, keeping the score tied. Game ended tie. Overtime: 10 minutes first to score wins. Boise battled hard. Great run up the side and shot by Tristan, but it sailed just wide of the goal. Game went to 2nd overtime of ten more minutes. Sam to Sami who kicked it to the goalie. Overtime ended with a tie. When off a throw in, Sami Marquez headed it to Thomas Ryden who side vollied it to deflect off a defender for a corner kick, but no one could get on the end of it. The ball bounced around for a throw in where Jack Goode headed it and it skimmed over the cross bar. Scary moment when Mountain View crossed the ball in for a shot on goal that sailed over the cross bar. Finally, after knocking all around the goal, Sam Zimmer threw the ball in to Jack Goode who placed a perfect ball on the foot of Sami Marquez who fought hard to get a shot off for the first goal of the game, 1-0. Short time later, Thomas Ryden held his pass to the last minute and slipped it to Ian Woodley who shot it hard past the goalie for the second Boise goal, 2-0. Great combination play between Luke Wallace and Tristan Wojcik. Boise kept pounding on the goal, but no score. Nick Black had an AMAZING save off a set play from Mountain View! Great cross by Tristan Wojcik to a running Thomas Ryden, but it was just out of reach. Second half started with pressure on the goalie from Ian Woodley and Thomas Ryden, but no goal. Great shot by Jack Goode off a set play, but goalie saved it by laying out sideways. A short time later, off a deflection from the goalie, Sam Zimmer headed the ball into the net for Boise’s first goal, 1-0. Sami Marquez scored the next goal off an assist from Sawyer Luthy to extend Boise’s lead, 2-0. Another run through by Meridian was quickly scooped up by Jack Payne. Sam Zimmer challenged the goalie who fumbled the ball, but then fell on top of it. Right after that, Sami Marquez had the ball and had his legs swiped out from under him, with a no call from the referee. Sawyer Luthy was right there to take the ball away from the defender only to get taken out in the box for a penalty kick. Sawyer stepped up and buried it in the back of the net for the third goal of the game, 3-0. Sam Zimmer got on the end of a through ball to run neck and neck with the defender and out stretch him to score the fourth goal for Boise, 4-0. Boise finishes the season 16-0, the first time in the conference history a team has gone undefeated!
JV District Tournament
Game #1 Thursday 10-10-19 vs Capital 3-0 win
The first game of the JV District Championships began the same way most of the games began this season for Boise High squad as the Brave dominated possession and looked like the stronger side from kick off. But despite keeping the ball in Capital’s half of the field for the first 10 minutes of the game, the Boise side struggled to break through as the Capital defense, populated with stout international players, refused to relent. A tense moment resulted in the 27th minute when an errant pass out of the back was deflected and squeaked through to Capital’s center forward. He found himself safely behind Boise’s defense, but Arthur Langlet made the save of the match, diving to his left to steer away Capital’s lone significant chance. Indicative of the tense, physical play, Boise won several free kicks in the next ten minutes. One such free kick at the 18 minute mark by Fasial Zaben from 25 yards out had promise, but Capital’s keeper made a nice save. Another free kick by Jonah Brown, lobbed deftly over the defense, found a streaking Jackson Fornander for a contested volley that sailed just over the bar. With the constant pressure it was only a matter of time for the Brave. Finally, after Braden Black was taken down from behind on the right wing, a yellow card was issued to the Capital player (one of three such cards given to Capital players throughout the game), and with yet another spot play, Jonah Brown floated an elegantly high ball into the box that Jackson Fornander headed decisively into left corner of the goal to put the Brave up 1 nil at the half. The second half began much like the first with Boise winning the possession battle and generating significant pressure up the right side. Several crosses by Braden Black out on the right wing produced quality chances. At the 33rd min, Calvin Warren streaked down the right side producing a beautiful cross that just missed completing the twin-connection as his brother, Nick Warren, after smart run from the back, couldn’t get his shot past the Capital keeper. It was a busy day for the Capital keeper, who made several saves to keep his team within equalizing distance. One such save came on a Calvin Warren break away. The keeper zoomed out passed the 18 and slid toward Warren to make an improbable save with his foot. But he couldn’t do it twice. After Johan Brown played an inspired through ball that split the Capital defenders, Calvin Warren once again was one on one with goalie. He scored with a clever shot off the outside of his left foot, putting the game out of reach and deflating any last remnants of hope the Capital side may have harbored. Late in the game with 3 minutes left, off a Braden Black corner, Andy Schell slotted home a rebound just inside the 18, sealing the victory for the Brave.
Game #2 Friday 10-11-19 vs Borah 4-0 win
Game 2 of districts found the JV Boys in fine form. The first 8 minutes had a few nerves showing with lots of high volleyed balls flying around before Boise settled things down and started to play a possession game. Then came a wonderful ball from Mid-fielder Faisal Zaben that found Calvin Warren 10 yards out, who flicked it deftly to the left leaving a wide open Andy Schell to tuck it in neatly just past the Borah goalie. Just 5 minutes later the 2nd score came from Calvin chasing a loose ball tothe end line, settling it with a defender charging and arching a pass over to a perfectly centered Braden Black who struck it home. 2-0 at the half with no real chances for Borah and some lively play from mid-field, a strong back line and creativity from the forwards had resulted in a not overly challenging first half. Things continued along in the same cadence of play during the opening minutes of the 2nd, with Calvin Warren again chasing down a lob from mid field, finding a streaking Kye McAllister at the top of the box who had a nice first touch setting up a great strike into the left of the net. A few fouls in midfield allow Borah a couple of free kicks, but again there are no real threats this half. In the 25:00 minute Chase Kluksdal wins a ball at midfield, passes quickly to Kye McAllister and continues his run as Kye feeds him a quick through ball. Chase splits two defenders finding himself with just the goalie to beat and does so with a calm tap in. There was not a whole lot to do for Boise's defense this half as the action was mostly all Boise on Borah's side. The few times it does get booted down to Boise's side it is handled deftly. There is a lot of wide open play and several more chances for Boise but the game ends 4-0. All in all a very strong showing and a great teameffort. Now on to District Finals!
Championship Game Saturday 10-12-19 vs Eagle 3-0 Win
Boise’s JV Brave team kicked off the district final match at noon Saturday against third-ranked Eagle High School. Fans were enthusiastic during introductions of players and starting lineup prior to kickoff. The top-seeded Brave squad wore classic red. Led by captains Calvin, Jackson and Faisal, our Boise footballers were charged and eager to redeem themselves after a frustrating loss to Eagle late in the season. We took early possession with an attacking run by Andy and Calvin. It did not take long for the Brave to find their rhythm. Kye McAllister struck decisively off a feed from Calvin Warren (10’) for Boise’s first goal of the game. Brave fans were roaring! At 14 minutes, Eagle committed a handball just outside their box. Nick’s free kick had fans on their feet, but the ball was deflected. Jonah tried again with an overlap run past the defense. Then Braden took a shot, followed by Calvin, who grabbed the deflection to slip one past Eagle’s formidable keeper, making it 2-0 for Boise. The Eagle offense appeared to rely on a long pass/ fast break approach. This worked against us last time, but the Brave defense, with smart, fierce play by Jackson and Eddy, did a superb job of shutting them down. Charlie applied pressure up the left wing, moving the ball with intensity and finding multiple shots on goal. Chase, as always, was a force in the midfield. Arthur made a stellar save on an Eagle corner kick at the 30-minute mark. Eagle kept the pressure tight after that, spurring defensive action on another free kick, including a well-timed block by Nick. Boise succeeded in regaining possession and control prior to the half.
Score at halftime: 2-0 for Boise. 13 shots on goal.
Early second half, Jackson subbed out after a bit of foul trouble. This was a frustrating setback, but Brave defense stepped up to the task. We countered offensively, switching up the right wing to Braden for a lightning-fast run and subsequent corner. No net, but Boise continued to dominate, keeping strong pace and rhythm, and waging intense head-to-head battles for possession. Ray came in clutch on a number of key tackles and defensive saves, supported by Felix and Nate. The Brave offense continued to hammer at Eagle. Cy had a shot on goal, and fueled momentum with quick passing out of the midfield. With about ten minutes to go, Calvin snagged a through ball from Jonah and took on remaining Eagle defenders to sink a sweet shot under pressure for Boise’s third point. Jackson returned to finish strong, alongside Dylan and Jack who brought fresh energy and determination to the match. Maz came in to spearhead some late offensive strikes, supported by Evan who served some outstanding corners and crosses his way. Arthur deserves a shout-out for an all-around strong season, and holding Eagle scoreless to the end. Our boys in red held the lead until the final whistle, which brought a roar of applause and ecstatic wave of fans and players onto the field.
Second half - 6 shots on goal 2nd half. 1 Goal.
Final score 3-0 for Boise, marking the second consecutive district championship title for our JV Boys!
2019 JV DISTRICT CHAMPS!
Varsity vs Timberline 10-2-19
Boise celebrated all the seniors prior to the start of the game. We are so lucky to have such a great group of seniors! Within the first two minutes of the start of the game, a corner kick was taken and Nick Liebich fought hard to get a head
on it for the first goal of the game. 1-0 Then, great defensive saves by Luke Wallace and Nick Liebich. A hard hit ball bounced over the goalies head but was cleared away at the last minute by a Timberline defender. Unfortunately, Timberline scored, making the score tied at one a piece. 1-1 Timberline then scored again, taking the lead 1-2. There were a few more chances and shots on goal, but score remained 1-2 at half. Boise started off the second half with a combination play between Sawyer Luthy and Ian Woodley with Thomas Ryden finishing it off into the net to tie it back up 2-2. Soon after, a hard shot by Tristan Wojcik ricocheted off the goalies hands, but no goal. A short time later, Tristan made a long run up the side, crossed it to Thomas, but Thomas’ shot was deflected off of another player out of bounds. Combination between Tristan Wojcik and Jack Goode, who calmly slipped it right past the goalie. 3-2. Liam McLain almost caught the end of a pass by Joe Woodley with his head, but it was just out of his reach. Play continued back and forth with both teams battling for possession and control of the game. A header by Nick Liebich was caught by the goalie and a shot by Sawyer Luthy sailed over the crossbar. Game ended 3-2
JV vs Timberline 10-2-19
On a clear & sunny fall afternoon, our squad got off to a good start with effective passing down the flanks and winning almost every 50/50 ball on the pitch. Around 10 minutes in, Calvin Warren slipped a nice ball through the back-line to the left corner of the box, where Charlie Taylor finished strong with a low strike to far post. 1-0 Boise! Timberline began attacking with a bit more pace following our goal, finding some lanes through the middle, but the backline stood strong and cut out several passes to leave our opponent with few real chances in the first half. Charlie Taylor comes off the pitch with a sprained wrist. Great vision and anticipation from our center backs Ray Womack & Eddy Grant. Seeing aggressive play up the flanks, as Nick Warren & Felix Filson finding good passing lanes to the outside mids. Boise also working hard to control the ball in the center of the pitch, as THS is pressing everywhere and not giving them much space to work with at all. Faisal Zaben & Kye McAllister provided good link-up play for our boys up top and to the wings when the lanes do open up. Calvin Warren continued to create havoc amongst Timberline's backline, with marauding runs and nicking the ball from defenders several times. Speaking of marauding runs, Braden Black was excellent on the right side of the pitch, terrorizing the outside back (& midfielders) and providing good service & more chances into the box which we were just unable to convert. Before the end of first half, we saw more solid play from the likes of Jackson Fornander, Nick Warren, Andy Schell and probably others that I couldn't keep track of (sorry!). Beginning of second half, we saw probing play from both sides, trying to control and possess the ball longer. Much of the attacking was build-up play through the center of the pitch, without much luck from either team in the final thrid. A chance from distance, with a long strike by Atambama Onesmo, but it's high and over the bar. Play is still a bit slow, both sides again trying to play small-ball through the middle. Another chance for Boise as the ball drops into THS' 18, but no luck to be found there for our CF. Game finally starts to open up with some box to box play happening, great runs from Mazrik Della Badia down the left flank, plus strong play and service from Jackson Fornander as wingback down the right side now. Wow, a dangerous ball is played through our backline but Ray Womack is there to clear our lines and what an excellent play! Solid tackles coming from Nick Warren on the left side now and he is causing all sorts of problems for Timberline's offense. Faisal continues to control the ball through the middle and sets up an enterprising shot from Cy Tullis from distance, then another probing shot from Kye McAllister from outside the 18 comes next. Just not having any luck from distance, but the play is positive and the boys continued to create chances. Near the end of the match, a questionable yellow card is given for an unintentional foul on THS. The resulting set piece sees them clatter a ball through our backline and about a dozen other bodies from both sides, and into our goal. Left wondering if Arthur was screened from the ball and just never saw it coming through all that traffic. Unlucky stuff for our boys, indeed. 1-1 now. Nick Warren making deep runs now, with a shot attempted from the left. A final chance or two go wanting and the game ends in a 1-1 draw.
Varsity @ Eagle 9-30-19
The game started off with quick passes and play from both teams. Shortly into the game there was a set play and Toby Caldara sailed it barely over the cross bar. Luke Wallace played the ball into the box and Jack Goode and Thomas Ryden were there, but the goalie dove on top of the ball before they could finish it. A short time later, Jack Goode passed the ball back out to Liam McClain who dropped it right over the goalie!! Goal! 1-0 Next, a great ball over the top by Toby to find a running Thomas who almost chipped the goalie, but it deflected off the goalie to trickle out of bounds. Later, a defender tried to head the ball back to the keeper, but the ball went over his head and Thomas Ryden was right there to follow it up into the back of the net for the second goal of the game. 2-0 Second half started with Boise providing much of the pressure and possession. Liam McLain headed a ball through to Thomas, but was called offsides. Great footwork in the middle by Ian woodley. Strong defensive stops by the Brave defense of Cory Cadwell, Nick Liebich, Toby Caldara, Luke Wallace and Joe Woodley playing in front of them. A great save by Jack Payne off a shot from Eagle. Hard shot by Sami Marquez that knocked the goalie down and was cleared by an Eagle defender. A short time later, a goal saving clearance by Tristan Wojcik! Boise held strong with another Brave victory! Game ended 2-0
JV @ Eagle 9-30-19
It was a hard fought battle by the Boise Braves JV soccer team, but in the end, the Eagle High Mustang's goalie provided a well deserved clean sheet, stopping everything from all ranges. For most of the first half, the Braves played solid defense, controlled the midfield and had numerous shots from Kye McAllister, Calvin Warren and the center mids. Charlie Taylor had many runs down the left side, while Nick Warren provided attacks down the right flank. At the 18 minutes left mark, Calvin Warren ripped a shot that was deflected by the sprawled out keeper. Minutes later another hard shot from Calvin on frame and a save by the keeper. With 14:27 left on the clock, Eagle countered with one chance and was successful getting the ball to an open left winger converting the pass to a goal. Minutes later Chase Kluksdal was tripped on top of the box and was awarded a direct free kick. Nick Warren's shot sailed high and over. Halftime Eagle led 1-0. Second half started shortly after with an amazing shot from Chase Kluksdal, but the control had now become a little more even and Boise was on the defense more. Again, Calvin Warren hustled and applied pressure with many attacks. 13 minutes in Jonah Brown took a shot from a Nick Warren corner kick. Later, Charlie Taylor’s runs got him in striking distance, followed by more shots from Calvin Warren and again saves by the amazing play of the Eagle goalie. With only 4 minutes left to play, Boise had several more chances, only falling to blocks by out stretched defenders and one amazing goalie. Final Score BHS 0- EHS 1
Varsity vs Skyview 9-25-19
Play began with a shot by Liam McLain that was just wide of the goal. That was followed up shortly by a hard hit set play from Toby Caldara, but was saved wide by the goalie for a corner kick. There were a couple of great saves by Jack Payne at the other end of the field. Play continued with possession from both teams. A beautiful through ball was played by Jack Goode to Thomas Ryden who tried to get a shot off, but the goalie bumbled it and pulled Thomas down in the box for a penalty kick. The Goalie got a yellow card and a substitute goalie came in for Skyview. Jack Goode stepped up to take the kick and buried it in the back of the goal!! 1-0 Next a corner kick went through everyone to find Liam McClain waiting at the far post who calmly slipped it past a defender and the goalie for the second Boise Goal of the game. 2-0 at halftime. The second half started off with a lot of pressure from Boise. The student section showed up in full force to support Boise on Homecoming week! Great moves by Ian Woodley to beat some defenders. A perfectly placed ball from Toby Caldara caught the head of Nick Liebich who crashed into the goalie and defender, but his header sailed over the goal. Play continued with Boise dominating possession and field position. With 12 minutes left in the game, Sam Zimmer split through two defenders and chipped the goalie for Boise’s third goal. 3-0 Great defense from Cory Cadwell, Nick Liebich, Luke Wallace and Tommy Reynolds. A good shot by Tristan Wojcik saved by the goalie with 4 minutes to go. At the other end, Nick Black made a great save to keep the game a shut out. Nice combination play between Sididharth Naidu, Zach Owen and Joe Woodley to finish up the game! Boise victory 3-0.
JV vs Skyview 9-25-19
It was a beautiful fall day for the second face-off with Skyview. In our first match with the Hawks, we won handily at 5-0. This time, Skyview went on the attack early, and kept the back wall of Felix Filson, Ray Womack and Nathan Privari a bit busier than usual. The teams went back and forth with possession, though we had many more shots on goal. Within the first 10 minutes, Charlie Taylor had a fantastic shot that hit the post, Cy Tullis got one off that was caught by the keeper, and Andy Schell had a great look that went just wide of the goal. Jack Gwin also had a lovely shot across the goal but unfortunately no one was there to pick it up. Chase Kluksdal and Faisal Zaben came in at the end of the first half, and as usual contributed to good ball movement with their fancy footwork. There was more Boise possession in the last ten minutes, with even more shots on goal and a corner kick. But despite this, we entered half time without a score on the board. Our boys started the second half with guns a-blazing and did a great job finding feet. Eight minutes in, Nick Warren took a free kick, which was caught by the keeper. Then a few minutes later, off this momentum builder, Calvin Warren gave a lovely assist to Braden Black for the first goal of the game. 1-0 Then just a few minutes later, due to some excellent defense on the part of Eddy Grant to stop a run, the ball was taken back to the Skyview’s side for another beautiful Braden/Calvin goal. Skyview also stepped up their game, but as usual, Jonah Brown and Jackson Fornander were always right there to make sure they were never a real threat. Mazrik Della Badia and Kye McAllister both had some great moments to save Skyview runs, and of course Arthur Langlet was his typically cool cucumber self with multiple excellent saves. Then the nail in the coffin came from Andy Schell and Atambama Onesmo with the assist to make the final 3-0. Still undefeated: LET’S GO BOYS! Shout out to Bret Bastian for his amazing coaching.
Varsity @ Centennial 9-23-19
Unfortunately, Centennial scored 6 minutes into the game. It fired Boise up and they created a few opportunities of shots on goals, but they were scooped up or caught by the goalie. Finally, a shot by Sami deflected by the goalie over to the side of the goal for Ian who calmly finished it in the goal.Tied 1-1. Several more shots all around the goal but nothing went in. Sliding saves, clearances and headers from the Boise defense. Half ended all tied up. Second half started off with shots by Boise. Great shot by Sami forced the goalie to lay out sideways for a save. Tristan crossed it to Jack Goode who shot and the ball bounced right over the goalies hands for the second goal. 2-1! Next a great punching save by Jack Payne. Boise continued to pressure Centennial. With 3 minutes left in the game Centennial got a penalty kick and tied the game back up 2-2. With less than a minute left in the game, Jack Goode got on the end of a clearance from the defense and then flicked it over the Centennial defense to Thomas Ryden who punched it in the back of the net for the winning goal! 3-2 Boise wins this exciting game!
JV @ Centennial 9-23-19
The Brave JV boys came out on fire in the game against the Centennial Patriots, with a rocket shot from Kye McAllister from 30 yards out 1 minute and 50 seconds into the game to put the Brave on the score board. The Brave offense continued to cause trouble for the Patriot defense with another solid shot from Kye McAllister at the 5 minute mark and another dangerous shot by Chase Kluksdal at the 6 minute mark. However, neither shot saw the back of the net. Twelve minutes into the half, the Patriots fought back hard with a powerful drive to the goal but they came up empty after JV goalie Arthur Langlet thwarted the attempt with a slide across the box to gain control of the ball. Leave it to the stout Brave defense, Nick Warren, Eddy Grant, Felix Filson and Jackson Fornander to shut out the Patriots the first half with no goals for the Patriots.
In the second half, the Brave took to the field with a 1-0 lead with the same energy they began the game. However, the Patriots fought hard and drove toward the Brave goal 2 minutes into the half, Felix Filson would deny the attempt with a slide tackle clearing the ball. With a throw in by the Patriots, the Brave defense was under attack again. However, Nick Warren and Jackson Fornander would defend the Brave goal at 2 1/2 minutes and 3 1/2 minutes into the half. No Patriot score was allowed. Then the Brave turned it on with a throw-in from Jackson Fornander to Braden Black who drove up the field and crossed to Maz Della Badia. Maz then chest bumped the ball into the back of the Patriot goal 4 minutes into the half. The Brave did not let off the gas. Fourteen minutes into the second half, with Chase Kluksdal and Faisal Zaben working the middle, Braden Black was delievered the ball and drove the field. Braden Black crossed the ball to Charlie Taylor and he placed the ball in the back of the net to take the Brave to a score of 3-0. The Brave defense continued to dominate the Patriots with great saves by Arthur Langlet, Jackson Fornander, Eddy Grant, Nick Warren and Felix Filson. But the Brave were not done yet. Freshman Evan Fornander continued to put pressure on the Patriot defense providing the Brave several opportunities. With 47 seconds remaining in the game, Jackson Fornander ripped the ball toward the Patriot net. The ball was blocked by the Patriot goalie, but a corner kick for the Brave was in order. With 13 seconds in the game to go, Jack Gwin volleyed the corner-kick out of the air to send the Brave to victory with a score of 4-0.
Varsity vs Rocky Mountain 9-18-19
Shortly into the game, shot on goal by Sami Marquez just wide of goal. Play went back and forth with no one really controlling the game. Another shot by Sami went wide on the other side this time. A good effort by Thomas Ryden one on one with the goalie, but the goalie scooped it up. On the other end of the field, there was a great save by Jack Payne. A few minutes later, a chip shot from Sawyer Luthy rebounded off the goalies hands and Thomas Ryden was there, but hit it wide off the goal. An incredible defensive stop by Tommy Reynolds to a running Rocky Mountain player. A shot by Liam McClain right to the goalie’s hands. About a minute and a half of the Boise offense bouncing the ball in and out and around the box, but no goals. Half ended in a tie 0-0.
Second half started with a shot by Sawyer Luthy ricocheting off the post. Boise was again pounding on the goal, but couldn’t find the back of the net. A through ball from Toby Caldara to Sami Marquez, but missed just wide of the goal. Finally, Jack Goode passed it out wide to Ian Woodley who crossed the ball right in front of the goal. Jack Goode faked it through his legs to a waiting Thomas Ryden, who slipped it past the goalie for the first goal of the game. 1-0 A few minutes later, a goal saving slide by Nick Liebich to keep Rocky from scoring. JV vs Rocky Mountain 9-18-19
The Brave JV Boys finally had a game in wet conditions Wednesday at Home. The field was slick and wet from earlier rains, but the boys came out pressing the Rocky Mountain defense from the opening whistle. Freshman Kye McAllistair fought through and took a nice shot that went a bit wide at the three minute mark. Jonah Brown then settled the ball nicely and delivered the next shot at the seven minute mark. The Brave team continued to press the team from Rocky on the offensive end of the field and were able to keep the opposing offense from mounting any real threats for most of the first half. The first, and only goal to find the net came around the 33 minute mark before the end of the first half when Charlie Taylor was able to poke the ball into the net after the ball bounced several times and was shot & blocked by different players from each side. The second half started off like the first half ended with Faisal Zaben delivering a nice shot that required a nice save by Rocky's goalkeeper 6 minutes into the half. The Rocky team had their best shot at goal shortly afterwards with a nice volley that ended up sailing wide of the goal. Charlie Taylor took a nice cross from Cy Tullis a few minutes later, settled the ball nicely to his left and let loose with a nice shot that just missed. Arthur Langlet was solid in the goal for the Brave and kept any attack the Rocky Mountain offense mounted away from finding the back of the net. JV @ Borah Lions 9-9-19
Under a partly cloudy, perfect 72 degree day, the Boise Brave JV soccer squad came out and displayed why they will be one of the top ranked teams this fall. They controlled much of the match with good ball control, passing and hustle. First goal: Boise’s Kye McAllister opened up the scoring about 4 ½ minutes into the match. Borah seemed to wake up a bit after that goal, but the Brave continued with their aggressive attacking style. Second goal: With about 23 minutes left in the first half, Mazrik Badia subbed in for Calvin Warren and went to work, scoring Boise’s 2nd goal of the match, with an assist by Jackson Fornander. It wasn’t until 18:20 left in the 1st quarter that the Loins got their first shot on goal, barely over the crossbar from just outside the Boise 18-yard line. A Borah player received a yellow card near the end of the Boise dominated 1st half where the Brave tallied 6 shots on goal to the Lions 1. Second Half - Third Goal: About 7 minutes into the 2nd half, Boise continued their scoring ways, when Calvin Warren found the back of the net off of a Jonah Brown assist.
Borah goal: Avoiding the shut out, Borah’s Ray Yangya scored with 18:33 left in the game. From this point forward Borah’s intensity grew becoming more physical and a bit “chippie.” Unphased, the Brave continued to control the game by matching the intensity while continuing to apply pressure and constant forward pressure. The match ended with Brave scoring 3 goals to the Lion’s 1. Boise’s 9 shots on goal to Borah’s 3 illustrate the aggressive performance of the JV squad. Monday was indeed, a good day to be Brave.

Boise held a strong defense, with spot on saves out of the air by Alec. Mountain View scored at 28:50 putting them up 0-1. Boise had a break away with an offsides call. The offsides calls continued to haunt our Braves throughout the first half, but they held strong and quickly made a comeback. Logan was fouled in the box granting the Braves a penalty kick! Joe tucked it away at 16:30 tying the game 1-1. The Braves continued to play a strong game with great shots on goal by Calvin and a free kick by Zach. Cory held a strong defense with a great save stopping Mtn View in the box, but they quickly came back with a throw in setting up a quick shot on goal giving them their second goal at 1:57 for a 1-2 lead at the half. The second half brought on a strong and determined Boise Braves team! Logan, Calvin, and Faisal taking multiple shots on goal with Jonah and Logan drawing fouls to allow free kicks from Zach and Quinn. Our passing game developed into a groove for the second half with Zach, Tommy, Jackson and Cory shutting down the Mavericks in the back. Tommy took a free kick and the battle continued between the teams, with Zach sending the ball up front allowing Logan to knock the ball in the back of the net; once again tie game, 2-2. Calvin followed it up with another goal, only to be called offsides… more and more shots on goal followed by Braden, Logan, Calvin, Quinn, and Joe. Finally, Quinn set up a great assist for Logan to score one more at 10:45 putting the Braves up 3-2. Braves advance to play October 4th!
10/04 JV District Tournament - Game 2 It was cold, windy and rainy as the Boise Braves took on the #1 seed, Timberline, in the second round of JV Distict finals. The turf and the rain made for an interesting game! Boise started the game with good intensity and quick passing. A nice shot from Quinn was just left of goal. Tommy followed with a near- goal off a header. A corner kick was headed on-frame by Joe, but saved by the Timberline keeper. Solid defense by Zach, Cory and Jackson, and some great saves by Boise goal keeper, Alec, led to a 0-0 tie at half-time. The second half opened with a nice save by Alec, and an explosive run by Logan who was unable to get a shot off. This was followed by a corner kick from Quinn to Andy and a high shot from Tommy, as Boise struggled to find the back of the net. The game continued to be very physical, resulting in a yellow card for a Timberline player. Again, strong defense by the Braves kept the Wolves scoreless. In the final five minutes of the game, Joe took a free kick off a Timberline foul. The ball rebounded off the keeper’s hands and Logan was in the perfect position to send it in to the net. The Braves held on to a 1-0 lead to win and advance to the District Championship.
10/06 JV District Championship Our Braves JV boys took the field against Rocky Mountain High School Saturday in the wake of the girls win, also over Rocky. The still-dissipating victory celebration sent the boys into the District Championship Final on a wave of positive energy. The Boise offense broke away two minutes in, off a throw in to Nichols who headed it on to McKendrick for the Braves' first shot on goal. Minutes later, Rocky answered with a low rolling shot that was quickly nabbed by keeper Martin. The first half was well matched, and saw generally even, back-and-forth action. Brown, who has worked doggedly in the midfield this season with clean-but-intense play and a wily knack for drawing fouls, earned us a free kick at 8', spurring some offensive momentum for the Braves. Playing on turf tends to make for a bouncy game, and this one was no exception. Our Braves worked to settle the ball and keep the offensive pressure on. Boise sparked a number of plays from the midfield trying to find McKendrick and Fornander converted tackles to forward passes with near clinical precision, but the team struggled to find a strong offensive rhythm. Up front, Warren and McKendrick scrambled all-out to capitalize on through balls and opportunities in the air, but either didn't have the numbers, or couldn't quite elude Rocky defenders. At the 10 minute mark, the score remained 0-0. Cadwell stepped up a minute later when Rocky moved against us. He was supported by the rest of our formidable back line, including Owen, Reynolds, and Fornander, who have proven almost robotically consistent this season. Their quick-thinking, integrated play has been a huge asset to the Braves -- not only in terms of solid defensive coverage, but the ability to build offensive momentum from the backfield. That being said, even the best can't always defend against the occasional brilliant/wildcard shot, like the corner kick Rocky curved in at 21 minutes. Wow. Our keeper got a piece of this Beckham-worthy trajectory, but even a pro would have been hard-pressed to deflect it over the bar. An unexpected setback, but plenty of time remained. McKendrick and Naidu retaliated with a quick-passing run up the left side. The side-out went our way and Reynolds powered a throw to Nichols that culminated in a shot from just outside the box. Shortly thereafter, Fornander took a solid chance on another long-range shot, but neither made the net. About this time, Tullis subbed in for McKendrick, and Maz and Black joined the fray. With seven minutes left in the half, the Braves were fouled at about the 30 yard line. Woodley took the kick, sending it high to connect with a flying header by Reynolds -- a stunning effort, earning high points for style and coordination, but not (unfortunately) the scoreboard. The half ended with Rocky leading 1-0. The Braves launched second half with a run up the sideline -- some fast passing action that set up Nichols for a long, left-footed shot. Rocky returned with a cross that ultimately came to nothing, but made for a few scary moments in front of our goal. Keeper Martin stepped in to nab the ball as the crowd heaved a sigh of relief. Speaking of which, the crowd. We had one! Boisterous, rowdy, hot off the excitement of the girls' game, and hungry for another win. Red-clad girls JV players, Brave parents and families, and a wave of student fans rallied to a raucous level of support that energized our players on the pitch. Word has it that Rocky was feeling pretty confident they had this game won. Our Braves, however, building on the determination that had propelled their number four seed to the District Championship Game, persisted. All eyes on the prize. Emotions ran high. Yellow cards happened, both sides. A few minutes later, composure regained, Reynolds powered a throw in to Black, who found McKendrick. Logan then hit Nichols, who was fouled on the shot. Owen took the free kick, sending it high to connect with Warren on a header opportunity that nearly materialized. A Rocky free kick at 48 minutes saw Reynolds doing his goofy marionette dance in the wall. Notwithstanding a few odd looks from the Grizzly players, it could be argued this technique is not ineffective, as Rocky gained nothing from the penalty. On into minute 57, Naidu and Zaiben fought hard mid-field to create offensive opportunities. Naidu found an open lane to Nichols who promptly slipped past his defender to fire off a shot. It didn't hit, but Brave fans were ecstatic all the same. At 63 minutes, the Grizzlies took a throw in (after a seemingly extended shoe-tying effort on the sideline). Fornander won the in-bounds ball, dishing to midfield, who sent the ball on to Black. He chipped it up on the right to McKendrick, who deflected it down and out ahead of the Rocky back line, to promptly dispatch it -- high in the back of the net. Tie game. Ecstatic roars from the Boise bleachers. Owen provided high-energy defensive leadership in the backfield throughout the match, blasting goal kicks as needed, and keeping the Braves focused on the fight. Nichols drew a foul with just 6 minutes remaining. He took the kick himself, sending it past a wall of purple to where Woodley (playing up front for a change) attempted to connect on a header. With the clock rapidly winding down and the score tied, Boise boys kept the offensive pressure on. Rocky fouled. Our subsequent free kick pinballed around the box for a while before hitting the hand of a Rocky player, setting us up for a penalty kick with only 3 minutes to go. Woodley was on it. How great to have a clutch player like Woodley for high stakes moments like this. That kid hasn't missed a PK all season. With cool certainty, he sent the ball into the net, and the Braves into the lead. It was a tense last couple of minutes holding onto the lead, but we kept our heads in the game and allowed Rocky no opportunity to tie up. Our Braves clearly wanted this championship and worked like mad through end of season and this tournament to earn the win -- a spectacular end to a great season. Way to go Boys Junior Varsity District Champions!!

Finally, a through ball played by Sawyer Luthy landed on the foot of Jake Pascoe who blew by the defense with his speed to fire off a shot past the goalie’s outstretched arms! 2 - 0 Boise! A short time later, Borah was given a penalty kick. Griffin guessed the right direction and almost saved it, but the ball slipped right underneath his arm. Play continued back and forth for most of the second half. Liam Curtain came into the game as goalie, with 20 minutes left. He made several crucial saves and the team played tough for the remaining minutes of the game. The game ended in a victory for Boise 2 - 1.
Varsity Game 2 - 8/21 vs Skyview
Game started fast and furious with pressure from both teams. Skyview had a set play where the ball dropped just out of reach of Griff’s outstretched arms, scoring the first goal of the game. 0-1 Boise created several chances that were just out of reach for the forwards and were scooped up by the Skyview keeper. Boise had a chance on a set play when Carter Luthy put the ball in the air and Tristan almost found the ball with his head before the goalie grabbed it. Later, a shot by Carson Cadwell was caught by the goalie, as well. Boise had many opportunities in the box off of those incredible long Jack Roser throw ins, but the ball kept bouncing around and cleared by the Skyview defense. Boise finally broke through the defense when Tate Caldara passed the ball to Sam Zimmer who shot and bounced off the keeper’s hands right to Carter Luthy’s foot who roped it in the net to tie the game! 1 -1 Back and forth play continued with pressure from both teams. Liam Curtain communicated well with the back line to scoop up a few loose balls. There were several more goal opportunities that were created by the midfielders and forwards. Our defense was smooth and confident to hold off several advances from Skyview. Game ended in a tie 1 - 1
Varsity Game 3 - 8/23 @ Eagle
Play started off a little slow and flat. Huck Mortimer made a goal saving clearance in the first few minutes off a long Eagle throw in. Combination play from Sawyer Luthy to Sami Marquez to Carter Luthy and back to Sami, was stopped short by the Eagle defense. Eagle tried to make some runs but were denied by Boise’s strong defense led by Jack Roser and Huck Mortimer, flanked by Issac Levi and Toby Caldara. As the game continued, Boise had a hard time adjusting to the artificial turf. However, with 6 minutes left in the half, Sam Zimmer picked the defenders pocket with high pressure to win the ball and slip a hard shot past the goalie for the Braves’ first goal of the game!! 1 - 0 Braves started the second half with a flurry of pressure. Jack Goode passed the ball to Carter Luthy who roped it off the crossbar. Carson Cadwell scrambled to get the rebound but was stopped by three defenders. Soon after, Carson Cadwell sprinted down the sideline and was stumbling through a swarm of Eagle defenders to drop it back to Jack Goode who fired off a shot - his shot bounced off the goalies hands and Sami Marquez was there to follow it in, but hit it just wide of the goal! Eagle pressed quickly down the field and shot on goal, Griff made a diving save over the crossbar and then again had to punch it out off the corner kick that followed. A few minutes later, Tristan Wojcik passed it across the top of the box to Ian Woodley who continued the play across to Carson Cadwell who buried it in the back of the net. 2 - 0 The game continued with pressure from Boise and great runs by midfielders and forwards, as well as, amazing defense by the back line! Game ended with a Braves win! 2 - 0
JV Game - 8/23 @ Eagle
The Braves JV Boys kicked off their first away game of the regular season against Eagle on Thursday August 23rd under smoky skies and humid conditions. Ryden startled the Mustangs with an early score at about the 4’ mark that was promptly called offside. He reasserted himself a few minutes later, scoring one that stuck, thanks to a nimble assist by McKendrick. Eagle was awarded a direct kick within scoring range at 17 minutes that gave Braves fans pause, but sailed over the goal. Our impenetrable back line, anchored by Liebech and Reynolds, with solid goalkeeping by Rhoades, shut down all other offensive attempts by Eagle. Early second half saw a lot of back-and-forth action, with the Braves holding the edge in terms of possession. Multiple Boise scoring attempts did not materialize. Escalating frustration on both sides resulted in plenty of player-to-player contact, friction, and a number of penalties. The Braves missed a late scoring opportunity at 65 minutes and shortly thereafter connected on a corner -- but not solidly enough to net a goal. Coach Bastian kept our on-field talent fresh throughout, making a late-game substitution to put McKendrick in touch with a pass from Black to score in minute 67.
Final Score: Boise 2 - Eagle 0.
Varsity Game 4 - 8/24 vs Madison
Within the first four minutes, Carter Luthy shot on goal - again hitting the crossbar - but the rebound was headed in by Sami Marquez to start the Braves off with a 1 - 0 lead. Great ball through the middle by Liam McClain that almost found the foot of Jake Pascoe before being cleared by a defender. A quick sprint from Tate Caldara to pass it off to Jake Pascoe who crossed it in, but the goalie came out to grab it before any Boise players could get on the end of it. Carson Cadwell blew past a defender, fired a shot at the goalie who blocked it out to where Tate Caldara was waiting to rocket the ball in the back of the net! Giving the Braves the lead! 3-2 Braves would hold strong to their lead the rest of the game. Liam Curtain made a great sliding save in the last 20 seconds of the game. Braves win 3 -2.
Varsity Game 5 - 8/25 vs Highland
After an awesome dedication ceremony of the new Boise High Athletic complex, the Braves started with a bang! Carson Cadwell was at the end line and dropped it back to find Jack Goode who placed it in the net for the first goal of the game 1 - 0. Soon after, Boise had a set play. Second half began with more shots on goal opportunities by Sami Marquez, Carter Luthy, Sam Zimmer and Sawyer Luthy. Their shots were either saved by the goalie or hit just wide. Finally, Sam Zimmer was able to slot one past the goalie to extend the Braves’ lead to 3-0. Moments later, a through ball played by Sawyer Luthy found Sam Zimmer who calmly popped it right over the goalie for another goal. 4 - 0 After many shots and attempts, a well placed through ball by Carter Luthy was beautifully finished with ONE touch in the upper part of the net by Isaac Levi!
The game ended with a 5-0 victory for the Braves.
Varsity Game 6 - 8/28 vs Meridian
The game started quickly. There was a foul committed by Meridian for a set play. Carter Luthy took the kick, but was blocked by keeper, follow by Sami, but it was just wide of the goal. Minutes later, Griff made a great save after a shot by Meridian. There were several more shots on goal by Sawyer Luthy and Sami Marquez. Another set play delivered by Carter Luthy to Jack Goode’s head, the Meridian goalie stood there watching the show! 1-0 Boise Carson Cadwell had some fancy footwork and great runs by Tate Caldara up the sides, but shots were wide of the goal. Pressure continued off a corner kick, where Jack Goode rushed the goalie and scored in a heap of players for Boise’s second goal. Beautiful play along the side when Tate Caldara flicked it to Carter Luthy who played it through to Sami, but his shot was saved by the goalie. Before the game ended Griff made a great save and Boise’s defense held strong on a few advances by Meridian.
JV Game - 8/28 vs Meridian
The Braves started strong against Meridian, adjusting easily to faster artificial turf conditions, and taking swift control of the game. Boise possessed the ball consistently and authoritatively for most of the match, pivoting skillfully off the backfield, taking advantage of the full pitch. Also, it's hard not to notice that Reynolds packs a formidable throw-in, which serves us more like a free kick. He deployed it throughout the game with force and accuracy, setting our Braves up for a consistent offensive advantage. Just before halftime, Schell executed a flashy turn to connect on a volley in front of the goal that nearly made the net—a dazzling end to first half, even without the score. Second half saw a continuance of offensive pressure by Boise, though the pace of scoring slowed somewhat. Coach Bastian made a few adjustments --like pulling out Liebich and Reynolds for a bit of well-earned rest, leaving the back line in the capable hands (or, more accurately, feet) of Cadwell, Fornander, and others. At the 40 minute mark, Warren slipped a through ball to Schell for team goal number five. In minute 52, freshman Gwin hit Black with a blazing assist for another score. In other action, Maz made half a dozen brisk offensive runs, putting enough consistent pressure on goal to keep momentum high and nab the unofficial prize for “most scoring opportunities in a single game." Meanwhile, and not surprisingly, keeper Rhoades barely touched the ball. Then who should show up in the midfield but the aforementioned defenders Liebich and Reynolds, looking to do a bit of damage up front. Indeed, it took no time at all for Liebech to sink one, off a corner by Black via a quick deflection by Nichols. Meridian’s keeper played a valiant game under heavy fire, so this fan was a bit sorry to see him step over the goal line to earn a hands call with just over a minute left in the match. Boise didn't nab the free kick, but it mattered little in the end, with our Braves on the brink of a definitive shutout, and their third win of the season. Final score: Boise 7, Meridian 0.
Varsity Game 7 - 8/30 vs Borah
The game started off quickly and with advances by both teams. Carson Cadwell dropped the ball back to Sami Marquez, who quickly one-touched his shot, but the shot was saved by the goalie’s outstretched leg. Soon after, Sam Zimmer rocketed a shot that bounced off the goalie’s hands right to a waiting Sami who tucked it away in the net for Boise’s first goal of the game. Hard defensive work in the mid-field from Jack Goode and Sawyer Luthy and a great save by Griff off of a Borah shot helped keep the Braves’ lead. The Braves continued to battle when Carter Luthy struggled to get a Borah defender off his arm with a pass to Carson Cadwell who calmly slipped it right past the goalie. 2-0 Boise! There was a scuffle in the box when Griff came out on a through ball, cleared out by Jack Roser! Minutes later, Sawyer Luthy to Jack Goode who played it to Tristan, but his shot was just wide of the goal. Jack Roser saved a last second goal in the first half when Borah shot and he skimmed it off his head to go over the crossbar...Whew! The second half started much like the beginning of the game. There was pressure and advances by both teams. Griff made another great grab to save a goal. Strong defense from Jack Roser, Nick Liebich, Isaac Levi and Tate Caldara. Borah had several more shots on goal that were either saved by defense, hit wide or off the goal posts. Unfortunately, Borah shot again and scored, with 11 minutes left in the game. But, Boise would come back when Carson played it to Tristan who crossed it to Sami, who then hit it hard in the lower part of the goal for Boise’s 3rd and final goal of the game! The game ended 3-1! Way to go Braves!
Varsity Game 8 - 9/04 vs Mountain View
Mavericks started with a quick goal. Braves in it for the battle, as Sami dribbles around the keeper and hits the post, Carson was there for the rebound, but the defender blocked his shot - Jack Goode was there to shoot with his left foot, but he sent it over the crossbar. Soon after, Sam Zimmer took it all himself to the goal and scored! 1-1 The whole team was working hard and getting physical. Braves had a few more shots on goal that were saved by the goalie. Finally, Griff sent a pass up to Jake Pascoe who headed it over the defense to get it back and take a calm shot in lower right corner! 2-1 Braves Second half started with several more shooting opportunities by Tate Caldara, Sami Marquez and Jack Roser, but all were either hit wide or saved by goalie. Finally, Carson Cadwell slipped one right past the goalies outstretched arms. 1-0 Soon after, Carter Luthy played a perfectly timed cross to Jack Roser who calmly helped the ball into the net. 2-0 Boise! Capital scored a header five minutes into the second half. Sawyer Luthy made a great tackle in mid-field to win the ball and pass it up the field to Carter Luthy to fire off a laser shot that skimmed over the crossbar. Strong defensive stops and tackles were made by Nick Liebich, Jack Roser, Huck Mortimer and Tate Caldara - all four defenders working together to stop any advances by Capital. Finally, Isaac Levi dropped it back to Jack Goode who finished it in the back of the net for Boise’s 3rd goal. Moments later, a beautiful lofting cross from Mossimo to Jack Pascoe who then flicked it up to Sami for a shot on goal, but saved by the goalie. With the minutes of the game winding down, Mossimo sent another cross for a volley shot by Bobby Lindner, but was hit just wide of the goal. The game ended 3-1 - Another whole team effort leading to a victory for the Braves!
JV Game - 9/06 vs Capital
Our JV Braves dashed off to a quick start with two goals in the first three minutes of this home match against Capital. McKendrick put us on the board with a deft feed from Black. Nichols followed shortly thereafter with a decisive goal in minute three. 2-0 Play was a bit more even keel for some minutes–if that could be said at all about this decidedly raucous match. Schell scored off another assist by Black about 25 minutes in. 3-0 Capital missed a scoring opportunity off a set piece midway through the first half, and waged a decent near-scoring run at one point, but the Eagles arguably played with more intensity than finesse. Our Braves defense -- Fornander, Owen, Woodley, Cadwell, and Reynolds-- upheld their usual high standards of play. Not surprisingly, Martin saw little action in goal. First score of the second half was instigated by Warren with a quick hit to Zaben, who sent it on to Della Badia for the finish—an impressive left-footed blast, high in the back right corner of the net. 4-0 Coach Bastian mixed it up a bit position-wise. It was great fun to see some of our usual defenders storm the front end of the field for a change -- say, when #18 Reynolds met a high cross with his head for a near score. Capital returned promptly on offense with a goal-worthy shot that was brilliantly deflected by keeper Rhoades, to a proud roar of approval from the stands. Nichols added another point off a free kick just outside the goal line at 59 minutes – a real beauty of a shot. 5-0 Woodley added one for the Braves with a well-executed PK after Brown was fouled in the box. 6-0 In all, it was a fierce, physical game. This fan was exceptionally proud to see our Braves play it cool and stay [mostly!] in control in the face of escalating frustration on the pitch. Final score Boise 6, Capital 0.
Varsity Game 10 - 9/08 vs Timberline
Game started quickly with a ball slipped through by Carter Luthy to Sami Marquez who slotted it right under the goalie’s arm for the Braves’ first goal of the game. 1-0 Pressure from Timberline was shut down by the strong defense of the Braves. Sam Zimmer made a crazy spin move on the defender, but the goalie scooped it up before he could shoot. Amazing saves by Liam Curtain! One was a hard shot on goal and another was a punching save to keep the Wolves out of the net! Tristan Wojcik had a great side volley shot that went over the crossbar from a huge Jack Roser throw in! Another save by Liam Curtain when the ball was bobbing around in the box and he threw his body on top of it to prevent a goal. Two hard shots on goal from Carson Cadwell, but both were saved by the goalie. Play continued back and forth with pressure and defensive stops from both teams. Off a Timberline corner kick, Jack Goode cleared it up to Sam at half field who crossed it to a sprinting Tate Caldara who then craftily chipped the goalie and finished in the open net! 2-0 Moments later, a strong shove in the back by a Timberline defender to Sawyer Luthy in the box for a penalty kick. Sawyer buried it down low for the Braves’ third and final goal of the game. Game ended 3-0
Varsity Game 11 - 9/11 vs Rocky Mountain
Game started a little slow, but heated up when Rocky ripped a header towards the goal, but it was saved by a diving Griff. Unfortunately a few minutes later, Rocky scored on a hard deflection shot. The game continued to be very physical. Rocky pressed high and Braves had a hard time controlling the pace and flow of the game. Rocky scored again in a bobbling mess in front of the goal. Boise had a couple shots, but were either wide or over the crossbar. Half ended 0-2. After half, Boise tried dropping a couple of balls into the box, but were cleared out by defenders or picked up by the goalie. However, minutes later, Boise broke through when Jack Goode crossed it over the top to Sam Zimmer, who headed it in the goal. Play continued back and forth. Griff made several saves off of Rocky’s shots. Boise was able to tie up the game off a long throw in from Jack Roser. Great play between Tristan and Carter who rocked a shot off the goalies outstretched hands to go out of bounds. Moments later, Rocky was awarded a penalty kick, which was saved by a diving Griff!!! Great efforts continued up top and in the midfield to put pressure on Rocky. Strong stops by the Braves’ defense continued, too! With 1 minute left in the game, Rocky scored a heartbreaking goal. Last minute efforts by the Braves fell short. The game ended with the Braves’ first loss of the year.
JV Game - 9/11 vs Rocky Mountain
Wow what a week. Crazy dual ref games with a lot of missed calls, but our boys held strong and fought. First game,Tuesday was against Rocky Mt. at their place (everyone’s favorite the TURF). A late start game at 5:30pm with Calvin Warren having our first strike on goal with a beautiful cross at the 5:32 mark. Steady speed of play and lots of movement with ball for the first 10 minutes of the game. The boys got their groove with the speed of play on turf. Beautiful combination plays with many shots on goal. Unfortunately none hit the back of the net for us. Sid Naidu gave a smooth through ball to Braden Black for a strong shot on goal. Another strike on goal occurred at the 18th minute of the first half off an indirect kick from Joe Woodley after being fouled with a forearm to the back. Hard strike on goal that looked like it was going to hit the upper V, but just missed. Boise continued to have shots on goal, but unfortunately nothing would break the goal line. The first half finished with a 40 yard rocket shot by Tommy Reynolds that just grazed the goal post in which the entire stands gasps. Alec Martin had an exceptional first half in goal with a fantastic play taking on a RM player one v. one and coming through with the ball. RM was denied and we ended the first half 0-0. The Braves came out second half with Kolby Rhoades in goal and the rest of the starting lineup ready to hit the fast turf again. Our Boise defense held strong all game with the backline of Jackson Fornander, Tommy Reynolds, Cory Cadwell and Joe Woodley. Our offense was quick on the ball and our movement was fierce, but no shots got past their keeper. Logan McKendrick, Quinn Nichols, Faisal Zaben, Andy Schell and many other skilled offensive players really worked the turf with their foot skills and speed but unfortunately we couldn’t seem to get anything in. With possibly 10 minutes left in the second half we thought we may have a chance with a handball in RM goal box, but the call was not made by the referee and so we went on to play those 10 minutes with many close calls for each side. Boys came away with a 0-0 tie to Rocky Mountain but also came away with ideas to improve on for their next match on turf, discussions about finishing and a great attitude going into their next game vs.Centennial.
Varsity Game 12 - 9/13 vs Centennial
In the first five minutes, Centennial scored a goal. But, Boise charged right back, when Centennial took a goal kick that was headed by Sawyer Luthy over the defenders, who were outsprinted by Jake Pascoe for Boise’s first goal of the game. Boise started to get in a rhythm with passing through the midfield and making runs up the side of the field! Long throw in by Jack Roser bounced over everyone to a waiting Carter Luthy who headed it in over the goalie to help Boise take the lead 2-1. Right after half, Luke Wallace took a free kick mid-field. He dropped it in to Jake Pascoe who crossed it to Jack Good to increase the Braves’ lead by 2! 3-1 Great runs and pressure by the Braves. JV Game - 9/13 vs Centennial
Boys were raring to go after their tie of 0-0 to RM. The first half started off with great vibes and energy right out of the gate. Defense and offense looked in sink and all were fully into making this game have a better outcome than Tuesday’s game against RM. Again, our offence came out strong as always with consistent movement of the ball throughout the field and continuous shots on goals, which unfortunately were being saved by Centennials goalkeeper who played a really great game that day. During our play we really used our switch ball a lot and the movement of the ball was smooth and precise. Our defense was on fire with great clearing headers and they didn’t hesitate to step to the ball and lock the player down. We came to half time with a 0-1 score after Centennial being awarded a Penalty Kick after being “fouled” in the box. Second half we came out with some newly charged fire, ready to put one in the back of the net. Great hussle by all and again many shots on goal by Andy Schell, Jonah Brown, Logan McKendrick, Quinn Nichols, Calvin Warren and the rest of our fantastic team. We had many chances on goal , with indirect/direct and corner options for us but nothing seemed to work out in our favor. The boys worked really hard to tie and or win the game but it wasn’t in the cards for our Braves this game. We know how strong and skilled our Junior Varsity team is and having these two challenging games in the middle of the season will give the boys the tools to navigate the remainder games of the season. Watch out districts here we come!

JV Game - 9/27 vs Meridian
The Boise JV team started out their final regular season game against Meridian playing in a 4-4-2 formation and looking to score. With dominating possession resulting in several shots on goal in the opening minutes and the beleaguered Meridian side rarely touching the ball, the first goal was a nice combination between Sid Naidu and Logan McKendrick at the top of the box at the 26 minute mark with Logan tucking it in neatly passed the goalie. With 20 minutes left, Meridian finally got the ball past the midline only to be met by the defense of Dylan Isbell, Zach Owen and Cory Cadwell who promptly send it back to midfield. Joe Woodley takes it into open space and after a series of passes Joe takes a shot on goal that was cleared by Meridian for a corner. Quinn Nichols sent in a high ball from the right corner into a waiting scrum of Braves and Logan got a body on it for the second goal. The Braves continue their onslaught and there were several shots on goal including two free kicks taken by Joe and sent into the box, with the Braves unable to capitalize. The first substitutions are made at the 16 minute mark and the flurry of offense continues with roughly a shot every couple of minutes. At 8:55, Faisal Zaben sends a ball across into the right corner for Braden Black to chase down and he crosses it to a waiting Calvin Warren who is left alone at the top right of the box. Calvin settles it and calmly taps it in from 7’. There are several more shots on goal until Cy Tullis is left alone 1v1 with the goalie who makes a well timed slide block. With 2:00 minutes left to go in the half, Cy gets another chance as Faisal feeds him and he switches it to his left foot to evade a defender and drives it in the left corner from 10’. The second half starts out with enthusiasm from the Braves and many shots from an attacking Mazik, Quinn, Cy, Sid and Logan. The Braves showed suffocating defense when Meridian put together a passing series that results in a wild shot from 30’. After excellent patience puts them in position for a Mazrik Della Badia shot that is cleared by Meridian for a corner, Quinn sends in a perfect ball from the left and it is knocked in by a Meridian player for an own goal at the 20 minute mark. There are many more shots, some handled nicely by the Meridian keeper, until there is about 10 minutes left. With the comfortable led, Coach switches his offense and defensive players. This results in a flurry of energy as defensive players try their best to get on the scoreboard. With 6:00 minutes left, Cory takes a throw in on his side and heads it up the field deftly to Calvin. Calvin controls it to Zach who feeds a streaking Cory at the top of the box who then sends a strike into the right corner. It’s all offense for the Braves now against a depleted Meridian team. Zach, Tommy Reynolds, Dylan and Jackson Fornander combine for multiple shots. Zach scores with 2:00 minutes left then after an excellent pass from Cory on the right from 15 out. The game ends 7-0. District tournament starts Wednesday, make sure to come out and support our Braves!
