EOD = Entry on Day

Entry on the day will be available for various courses in non competition classes (Yellow, Orange and Light Green), subject to availability of maps.

Map

The map is new for the event and will be printed on waterproof paper for those entering in advance. Those entering on the day are not guaranteed maps printed on waterproof paper! Note that the yellow areas which are shown darker than rough open and lighter than pastureland are areas of bracken and will generally slow progress. Two map scales will be used for the event - 1:10000 and 1:7500. The scale of the map will be listed by course in the final information.

Terrain

The terrain consists of open moorland for most courses except for a section of the shortest junior courses (10s and 12s) which will be along forest tracks. The open moorland is grazed by sheep and so has little undergrowth other than some patches of bracken which are marked on the map with a shade of yellow which is between that of pastureland and rough open. A few controls on the longest courses are located in areas having short heather. The moorland has significant networks of gullies, wet and dry drains and point features like boulders in an otherwise typical moorland landscape but there is significant contour detail near valleys.

Assembly

Assembly will be located adjacent to parking.

Start

The walk to the start will be 800m with 85m climb along a forest road from assembly.

Finish

The finish will be located 250m from download and assembly (along a flat taped route through a wooded area).

Parking

Parking is on the side of the R639 (old Cork-Dublin road) about 500m south of Kilcoran lodge hotel. Traffic volumes on this stretch of road are expected to be low at the time of the event but please note that the speed of passing vehicles might be high! Accordingly, care should be taken when crossing the road and extra care should be taken with children. There is good visibility in both directions.

Don't forget...

- Full body cover is advisable

- A whistle will be compulsory

- A no whistle no go rule will apply

- A cagoule/rain jacket is advisble and may be compulsory on the day
