Checklists

These applications are used by birders for logging bird sightings. They run on Android smartphone and tablet devices, and are available from the Google Play store.

** IMPORTANT UPDATE - these applications were first developed 10 years ago for Android 2.1. Over the years Google has made changes, and from Android 11 which will be mandatory in 2H21, I will no longer be able to publish updates or support these applications. Sorry folks, there is no simple fix to meet Google's new security requirements; the Birding Checklists will need to be rewritten. I will keep them on the Google Play store for as long as possible, but they are now in sunset and do not currently have any plans for a replacement. **

What is this application for?

These applications are targeted at birders who want to record their bird sightings in the field, and keep track of the number of species they have seen. The application includes basic bird identification information, but is NOT intended to replace a field guide. They include key identification features only, not a comprehensive reference resource. With these applications you can:

    • Log the birds as you see them, with GPS co-ordinates (if supported by your smartphone device)

    • Upload your sighting logs to eBird

    • Keep track of your Lifelist (a record of all the bird species you have seen)

For a number of checklists there is a free trial demo version, which you can use to verify the functionality of the application and see if it will meet your needs. The difference between demo and full version functionality is summarised in the following table.

Screenshots

These screenshots show the UK/WP Birding Checklist, but apart from the bird species and locations the operation and look is similar for all the other checklists.
