I rarely get to practice interests outside of my science career, but I frequently knit at meetings, as I am able to both listen and do repetitive tasks. I enjoy cooking, and growing the ingredients, as well as gathering wild food sources such as mushrooms. I preserve food through fermentation, canning, drying, freezing, and smoking. Pets bring me great joy, especially cats, though I don't mind dogs. I do a lot of research and reading of peer-reviewed sources on topics that interest me, as well as running workshops for non-scientists on technical writing, research basics, and logic. In the past, I have practiced nearly every fiber art, and occasionally incorporate those skills into my outreach efforts. I always enjoy learning new things.
