The Lighting Designer works with the director to shape the world of the play. They and their team help to set the mood of the play, define the space the actors are in, and of course help the audience to see the actors! They help direct the focus of the audience to where the action on stage is taking place.
This video follows two well known lighting designers through their process and there are some sneak peeks about how lighting was designed for Aladdin and Hamilton on Broadway
The following documents will give you a good starting point for lighting design
We use an ETC Ion as our lighting console. The Ion is part of the Eos Family of consoles. Please view the training videos below to learn how to operate and program the Ion. You can also view the level 1 and level 2 training documents as well as the Ion Cheat Sheet, Eos Family Effects ,and Eos Family Hardware documents. The links to these are on every page for lighting as it is important for everyone in the lighting department to understand what the board can do and how to get the board to work with the lighting instruments to get the effect that the director/designer wants.
