This is a partial History
Several years ago I did extensive searching on the internet to find some traditional Christian music I could listen to. I found a huge number of websites on Christian subjects that weren't what I was looking for and it just slowed and frustrated my search. Eventually I came across some wonderful music websites and they have been a great blessing to my wife and I. They seemed like buried treasures to me and I decided to save my friends a lot of trouble of searching by sharing these music resources with them.
I decided to search for some other Christian resources. I found had to sort through lots of things of little value, such as, things of interest to only a few, sensationalism, or things for sale. I just did a Google search for the word "God" and it brought up a lot of things of little value. It even brings up opinions of antagonists and atheists. Occasionally, in my searching, I also came across some amazingly good Christian resources. At first I found online Bibles. One website has Bibles translations in 100 languages and 46 translations in the English language. Then I found some websites that have free concordances, commentaries, encyclopedias, Bible maps, and apologetics and much more. I found two sites which have about a million sermons including some from the best preachers and reformers going back to Martin Luther's day. Websites that have high quality content represent a relatively small proportion of websites out there. Finding these websites is like finding gold in amongst hay, wood, and stubble.
If a God fearing person or a seeker in a closed country tries to find God on the internet, he will have a difficult time finding direction, salvation, and quality Christian resources that can encourage his growth. There are 5 billion people in the world who do not yet know Christ. They have not yet been reached by Christian neighbors, missionaries, books, radio, TV or other methods of evangelism. The internet can reach inside the closed countries to the many millions of people who may not own a Bible or know a missionary or even a Christian.
A person should be able to go to the internet and easily find the things they need. That doesn't happen and the Christians and Christianity as a whole suffers for it. There are some doable things that can be done about it to help the situation.
Christians should work together to present a unified front like the Catholics and the Mormons do. They should build a high profile website that represents all aspects of the Christian faith so everyone can get behind one source. 1Cor. 1:10, Rom 12:4,5 tell us we should not have divisions and we are members of one another. They are the ones that need to be promoted by Christians so they rise to the top of internet searches. Christians should represent it's own religion better than this and there should be a website that is representative of orthodox Christianity.
I found several websites That are directories of Christian resources. Most of those directories are are simple lists of links to those websites without guidance or comments. I included their links on my website.
More to come later.
