I recently read The National Association of Evangelical's “Code of Ethics for Pastors” and though it sounds so very nice, I wonder is this sort of thing really necessary for Christians?
First under the subheading Pursue Integrity in preaching and teaching they say this: “Interpret the Bible accurately” The Bible says this: “knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.” 2 Peter 1:20 ASV The point here is very self evident, Christians do not “interpret” the Bible, the Bible “interprets” itself.
Next under the subheading Be Trustworthy with information is this peculiar statement. “Inform a person in advance, if possible, when an admission is about to be made that might legally require the disclosure of that information.” Why do this? Is it not so that persons will not reveal serious evil criminal acts. Hear no evil so you don't have to report evil to the proper authorities, nonetheless the evil remains. That does not seem ethical.
For True Christians this “Code of Ethics for Pastors” is absolutely unnecessary. God's inspired word is more than sufficient for moral or ethical guidance. Please Read 2 Timothy 3:16,17
