Memorable quotes from speakers at the event:
Anita Zucker, CEO,
InterTech Group, and Chair, Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative: “We
must invest in the development of our children. We must invest our dollars, our
resources, and our time. I believe the future of our country depends on
it. The future of business in this country depends on it. Our
company has been an investor [in BEGIN WITH BOOKS] and will continue to be an
investor. We will invest in this program to help expand what’s happening in
Kim Foxworth, Director of Child Development, Charleston County School District: “BEGIN WITH BOOKS is a strategy for closing the achievement gap. BEGIN WITH BOOKS gives families an incentive to spend intimate time, even with babies, in sharing books. This helps instill a love of books that carries them into school.”
Jasmine Kang, Plant Manager, Cummins Turbo Technologies: “A lot of times, the people who really shine are the ones who have a real interest in reading. Having BEGIN WITH BOOKS in an area like North Charleston would be a great benefit for us over the next years so that we can get our next leaders coming from the local area.”
Rev. Cheryl Mills, El Shaddai Missionary Baptist Church: “I am a pastor right in the middle of the 29405 community and I know how important getting these books into a child’s hands is going to be. It is going to be more than just something that we do to make people smile. It is going to change a generation.”

BWB's first yard sale on Johns Island was a big success. A happy crowd of shoppers found real treasures in the children's area, where clothes, books, toys, and furniture found new homes. Proceeds will sponsor 53 Johns and Wadmalaw Island children in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Many thanks to Faith Lutheran Church for hosting the event and to Safe Storage for providing collection space for donations.
Coosaw Creek Country Club, North Charleston
Outgoing president Barbara Megorden of Coosaw Creek Women's Club presented awards to CCWC's Chosen Charities for 2012, Katie's Krops and BEGIN WITH BOOKS. The award to BWB will sponsor 123 children in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and will deliver 1,476 books to children in Charleston County.
Barnes & Noble, Sam Rittenberg store
VOLUNTEERS from The Charleston Book Lovers meetup book club staffed our gift-wrap table at Barnes & Noble all day, earning enough in tips and donations to sponsor 7 children in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Thanks to B&N and our volunteers for "wrapping up" another 84 book deliveries!
Trident Technical College - Palmer Campus

Mt. Zion and Angel Oak Elementary Schools, Johns Island SC
BWB teams up with the College of Charleston to bring Imagination Library books to life. Student interns in the Theater Education Department developed musical, acting, and arts activities to accompany book-reading and story telling at CD classes in two local elementary schools, where most students are enrolled in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The first book featured was Nona Strega's Harvest.
