Very few books tell this important story in history at a child's level. It is wonderfully illustrated and told in such a way that draws you into it, as though you were there. With its emphasis on bravery and kindness this book is a must for any good Kiwi kid's bookshelf, whatever culture.

Great book and well written. It gave my children an interest in our local history and inspired us to find out more. Very encouraging how one person's act of kindness can be used an example to us all.

The illustrations are brilliantly done.  Beautiful.  As is the text.  Well done, Jenny.  You've managed to portray history and make it interesting.  Not an easy task for any writer.  I look forward to seeing many more from you.  Keep writing!  Jean Anderson (Author)

'Kids enjoy this book. It's especially exciting for those who have visited this historic site.'

This book is beautifully written and illustrated.  It is such a treasure having childrens books about local history.  I highly recommend it to all.....young and old.

This is a well written action packed story which not only teaches children New Zealand history but also teaches important values. As a Values Education teacher I can see that it will be a valuable resource in the classroom, capturing the interest of both girls and boys. Well done!
