How Long has It Been?

October 14, 1908 was a beautiful day at Bennett Park in Detroit, Michigan. On that autumn afternoon the Cubs beat the Tigers 2 - 0 in front of a mere 6,210 fans (in a snappy 1 hour 25 minutes!) for their second straight World Series crown.

Many could have predicted that the Cubs would continue to dominate for years, as they had done so since the beginning of the century. Indeed, they would appear in 7 more World Series over the next 35 years (the last time also against the Tigers). Alas, they walked away from each of those as the losing team. The 1945 World Series is referenced in the Steve Goodman song "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" when Goodman says, "The law of averages says, anything will happen that can, but the last time the Cubs won a National League Pennant was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan."

So here are the answers to "How long has it been since...." (Count up clocks removed and final tally listed):
The Cubs won the World Series in 1908?  39,467 days
The Cubs were in the World Series in 1945? 25,957 days

2016 Update: Well......the impossible has happened! Not only were the Cubs IN the World Series, they WON it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES! It finally happened. So ignore all the text and clocks above (now there just for reference). Here is all you need to know:

Time to start a new clock!
