Backstabbers Finland - knife defense and knife fighting!

Backstabbers Finland is a nonprofit training group dedicated to Baraw Sugbo -style knife defense. As a system Baraw Sugbo is compact and also well suitable for supplementary training for other martial arts (see the history of Baraw Sugbo). Training languages are English and Finnish. Instructors of the Backstabbers Finland are certified by Grandmaster Eduardo S. Ceniza. Please read the history and the detailed description of the art from this subpage.

Training times:

Regular training times: Wednesday 17.00 onwards and Saturday 11.00 onwards. Usual session length is approximately 1,5 - 2 h depending on the trainees.

Training fees:

Club membership fee 20 € / year.
Season fee (spring/fall): 80 € or 10 € per session

Level 1 -introductory course

Level 1 -introductory course lasts for 5 hours and during that time you will practise basic blocking and disarming against single stabs and combinations. Introductory course enables you to participate to training sessions on Wednesdays and during weekends. Level 1 -Introductory course training times (Check the next dates from the main page):

Introductory course fee is 80 € (this includes the season fee and a training book). You can pay with cash or by bank transfer (take a receipt with you).

Starting the training at the Backstabbers

At the Backstabbers training group training of Baraw Sugbo -style knife defense is accustomed to the level of the trainee. The objective is to challenge physical and mental limits in a safe way. Our groups are small and instructing personal according to the progression of the trainee. Training languages are English and Finnish.

Equipment

Please remember to remove any jewellery and rings. Keep your finger nails short and round.
Clothing according to weather or T-shirt and pants suitable for sports when indoors. No need for shoes. Take a pen with you for taking notes.
Sports tape for small cuts.
If you want to you can wear protective goggles (shooting-, airsoft-, squash- or floorball-goggles.
Your own training knife if you have one. We also have spare knives.

Training- and membership fees and insurances

Training of Baraw Sugbo is non-profit in Finland. Season fees are used for the costs of foreign teachers.

Training fees consist of the following: Membership fee, gym use fee and season fee.

Club membership fee 20 € /year (pay before applying membership).
Backstabbers season fee (includes introductions fee) 80 € /spring/fall

Payments by bank transfer or by cash.
Please note that most of the normal personal insurances don't cover directly injuries caused by martial art training.

Outdoor training site during rainy weather and during winter: Veturitie 19 (bridges next to the Pasila car train station)
Outdoor training site during the summer and nice weather: Hannanpenger 1 (park next to a basketball court)
Fudoshin club dojo (Western Pasila), Winqvistinkatu 1, 00240, Helsinki, Finland.
Training location is easily reachable by tram or by all commuter trains. Fudoshin -dojo is less than 10 minutes away from Pasila railway station. Please see Helsinki region journey planner for details reittiopas.fi/en. Nearest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL) and about 40 minutes from the training location by train/bus. Preloaded GPS maps like google maps can help remarkably finding the dojo. If you are using the public transport check out the "day ticket"options, which you can also buy from the HSL mobile application. With your own car you can reach the the dojo using the tunnel beside Hotel Pasila. (If you are using navigator set the end point as Maistraatinkatu 5.)

Baraw Sugbo training in Finland stems directly from the original sources of the style in Cebu. Training sessions in Finland are instructed by certified instructors trained by Eduardo S. Ceniza, Cronnie Cabatingan, Venson Villamala, Willy Panal and Bobby Dela Rosa.

*Certified instructor: Has received a formal certification of teaching knowledge of a certain level of Baraw Sugbo from Eduardo Ceniza or from a full instructor.
**Accredited instructor: Recognized as meeting the essential requirements of the level by demonstrations or by actively participating to training or teaching activities.
