“The casting was spot-on. How lucky was the Director to have such a crop to pick from” - (from NODA's review of Broken Glass)
ACT is a non-professional theatre group based in Axbridge, Somerset. We aim to provide opportunities for anyone interested in experiencing theatre, whether on-stage, backstage, front of house or as a member of the audience. We normally stage two productions a year, with a programme that provides variety and inclusivity. In recent years, productions have ranged from tragedy to comedy , from Shakespeare to Noel Coward and from Arthur Miller to Alan Ayckbourn.
ACT was founded in 2000 on a wave of enthusiasm generated by that year’s Axbridge pageant. It began with a series of home-grown plays based, like the Pageant, on local history and events. Since then, ACT has gained a reputation for high standards of production and performance.
Fancy taking part? Putting on a play requires a lot of teamwork. ACT always welcomes new members, to appear on stage or carry out the many behind the scenes roles - including costumes and props, lighting and sound, set construction and painting, make-up, publicity and sales, front of house, etc. Productions are developed over an approximate eleven -week period, and rehearsals take place on Sundays. Our Theatre
ACT's local productions are presented in the Town Hall, located on Axbridge's medieval Square. We have devised ways to convert this multi-purpose hall into a small but intimate theatre space with an adaptable stage and audience layout. Depending on the needs of different productions the theatre can seat an audience of between 50 and 65. The seating is tiered towards the back so all seats have a good view of the stage.
