I have been in education for the past 12 years as a teacher and teacher trainer (Instructional Program Specialist). After, completing my Masters in Educational Leadership, I continued toward my Doctoral in Educational Leadership at High Point University, which I am hoping to complete by the end of 2019. I believe that I have grown so much as a person and as an educator through the years of my experience, and through my participation in Cohort Programs at HPU. I get plenty of opportunities to collaborate with other scholarly practitioners and we work together to define the problems that educators are facing today and how can we solve those problems skilfully. I am extremely passionate about learning, education, technology, and my personal and professional growth. On this website, I also included some information about the technology tools that I like to use and recommend to other educators. I always made a conscious effort to instil the same love of learning in my students. I passionately believe that education is the key to unlocking doors to a brighter future. As educators and key holders, we have the responsibility to ignite that power. I also believe that each child has a special talent and it is our job, as educators, to provide an educational experience that inspires children to recognize and strengthen their individual talents. I believe that all students can reach their fullest potential if given a positive, invigorating, and innovative learning atmosphere that welcomes exploration. I am positive that we can make a real difference in our students’ lives by our collective effort, commitment to the profession, and effective communication among all stakeholders.
I enjoy reading articles and books related to organizational improvement and leadership. My favorite authors are John Maxwell and Steven Covey. I loved reading "Speed of Trust" by Steven Covey and "Becoming a Person of Influence - How to Positively Impact the Lives of Others" by Maxwell. I spend my spare time with my husband and two boys, Shane and Josh. Shane is in 7th grade while Josh is in his 1st grade. Shane enjoys playing with his little brother as much as playing sports through YMCA youth sports programs and Josh likes singing and bringing smiles on everyone's faces..!
As a parent and an educator, I feel that it is as necessary to meet the basic physical and emotional needs of the children as their learning needs. As a teacher, I focus on developing a compassionate classroom where students are challenged with high expectations and ready to accept failures when it happens. I intentionally provide them opportunities for small successes along the way, so that when they hit a road block, they persevere with confidence. They are not afraid to take risks and they are challenged to gear the direction of their own learning. I am assertive that there is an incredible value to setting high expectations while expressing confidence that students can succeed with tasks that may feel overwhelming.
Thomas L. Friedman, author of The World Is Flat, refers to a twenty-first-century world that will be very different from the one in which we were educated. To survive in a new, globally competitive world, today's children will need creativity, problem-solving abilities, a passion for learning, a dedicated work ethic, and life-long learning opportunities. I have the vision, as a future educational leader that I will work with others to strive to develop a compassionate school culture where there are high expectations for each student and teacher; new ideas and mistakes are accepted; perseverance is highly desirable by all; and students receive the education to be successful not only in today's world but also to thrive in the world that they will inhabit as adults.
