WHAT IS THIS SITE?

This is a site dedicated to AvP '99/Gold Edition/Classic 2000 and content made for the game. This is specifically the PC-released 1999 Rebellion game.

WHO ARE YOU?

If you haven't guessed by now, I'm Olde.

WHAT IS AVP CLASSIC 2000?

This is a game that's near and dear to my heart. Combining the xenomorph from the Aliens franchise and the predator from the Predator franchise, and add the marine for good measure and you get one hell of a great game. It's fast, furious, dark, gripping, intense, very difficult, extremely refined, and almost perfect in my eyes. It may suffer from some logistical problems but what it does right vastly overshadows its minor flaws. In my opinion, it's a very unappreciated and borderline forgotten game whose merits were never adequately recognized by the gaming community writ large. Thanks to its groundbreaking lighting engine, it enabled for a darker atmosphere than anything seen at the time. The game's unprecedented and still unmatched speed and mobility mechanic also allows for an incredibly diverse yet well-balanced range of playstyles. The multiplayer aspect, when done right, is a great example of skill meeting skill head-on. The skill ceiling is very high, and even when Though some of its graphics are primitive, the game's engine is still remarkable for what it can get away with. Though it was well-received by reviewers, scoring an average 8 or 8.5 out of 10 across the board, it consistently scored negative points for its lack of story (which, two years earlier when the game's development started, wasn't even on people's radar) and Fox's unwise decision to alienate users of the original 1999 and the later 2000 release. The former an unfortunate result of Half-Life's release only a few months earlier, and the latter being perhaps unavoidable, the game has since stood for over a decade as a good but not great shooter, a product of a younger and more naive time, a quaint and curious bit of nostalgia and niche marketing, rather than the massively refined behemoth that it is. Many in-game aspects such as dynamic explosions and support for 4k textures later came to be revered by specialists. Unfortunately, the game's population was cut in half by the release of the game's expansion pack in 2000, and it was later completely alienated by the 2001 release of Aliens versus Predator 2, which was both more story-driven and had adopted a style then in vogue for PlayStation 2 games, seen as an improvement in graphics. By 2003, the community was seen as "dead," and the population was dwindling into nothingness until the game's re-release on Steam in 2010. Since then, members of the community such as myself have been doing all we can to keep the game and its history alive.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR AVP CLASSIC 2000?

I consider myself mostly an archivist for the game, that is, I scour the internet for information, files, images, and uploads to share and preserve. But I'm also very active in the community, having hosted public tournaments, written over 20 guides, and worked with rookie players to improve their game. I've also made skins, sounds, maps (unreleased), map conversions, and many, many videos, including tutorials, walkthroughs, playthroughs, tournament matches, and commentaries. WHY DID YOU GET SO INTO AVP CLASSIC?

You can check out my History section for more information.

WHAT ABOUT AVP2?

Fuck AvP2. Get that garbage out of here.

WHAT OTHER GAMES DO YOU LIKE?

I like old school games such as Half-Life, Quake, Unreal Tournament, DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Painkiller, Descent I, Descent II, and Deathmatch Classic. I also like newer games that evoke the same spirit as old school games, such as Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Black Mesa, Bulletstorm, and DOOM (2016). I really like the Elder Scrolls games but I hate Fallout 3. I enjoy certain RPGs like the Final Fantasy series (pre-XIII), Lost Odyssey, and the original Might & Magic series (before Heroes). I've also wasted a lot of time in the indie game Overture.

HAVE YOU DONE MODDING WORK FOR ANY OTHER GAMES?

I've done some very simple mod stuff for Left 4 Dead 2, the content of which is on the Workshop and accessible here. I am by no means a full-time modder and I consider myself by no means an expert in any game other than AvP Classic. I may consider mod requests for AvP Classic but not for any other games.

WILL YOU POST A LINK TO AVP CLASSIC OR OTHER GAMES FOR FREE HERE?

No. Find them yourself or pay for them. The only links you'll find here are for content that is not monetized.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BETTER, ALIENS, MARINES, OR PREDATORS?

I don't fucking know, I don't really take the franchises too seriously.

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE NOVELS, COMIC BOOKS, FAN FILMS, FAN THEORIES, EXTENDED UNIVERSE, ETC.?

No, and I don't care. One of the best things about AvP Classic is they didn't botch the game by having a story; instead they had no story and it's fucking great.
