The Avenue of Flags Committee is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The tax I.D. # is 30-0442852.

A receipt will be mailed to each donor. Less than 2% of your donation is spent on administrative costs as all time and labor expended by the committee is donated.

Current Projects

  1. Coordinating the annual Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Wreaths Across America programs at Golden Gate National Cemetery

  2. Creating free postcards for visitors.

On Going Projects

  1. Working with veterans centers at local community colleges to heighten awareness of opportunities for veterans.

  2. Updating the website to keep it "fresh" and informative for visitors.

Completed Projects

  1. Raised $21,000 for the original project of setting up an "Avenue of Flags" including purchase of aluminum poles and sockets for 536 donated casket flags.

  2. Raised $4,000 for resurfacing the podium area and embedding of bronze medallions contributed by organizations whose members assisted with the initial phase of the project and the first Memorial Day program. (See History for a list of these organizations).

  3. Organized and presented annual Memorial Day program every year since May 28, 1978.

  4. Organized and presented annual Veterans Day program every year since November 11, 1978.

  5. Updated previous webpage and created new webpage, July 2010.

  6. Compiled and updated history of Avenue of Flags Committee, July 2010.

  7. Completed the basic website. Updates, additions and revisions will be an ongoing project.

  8. Created a letter inviting people to join the committee. (11/11/10)

  9. Created free brochures for visitors (5/23/11)

  10. Created magnetic car signs for announcing upcoming Veterans Day and Memorial Day events.

  11. Created banners to post on the gate at the entrance to the cemetery and on the fence at El Camino and Sneath Lane to announce the upcoming Veterans Day and Memorial Day events.
