When PKE activity spiked in New York City in 1983, nobody could quite believe the cultural phenomenon that would be unleashed along with Gozer the Gozerian. Ghosts were real, and three scientists could prove it. Two movies and several cartoons were made out of their exploits. They licensed their name and gear to Ghostbusters around the world, becoming rich beyond their wildest dreams... and then thanks to the Federal Government and mounting lawsuits it all came crashing down. Ghostbusters International became the Department of Paranormal Defense (DoPD) with options for the State Governments to take over individual franchises.
Located in Austin, Texas, you inherited the last remaining non-government owned Ghostbusters franchise in North America from your dearly departed Aunt and Uncle. Your proton packs are almost 40 years old (but the energy cells have a half-life of 5,000 years) and your ghost traps are collecting dust in their recharge locker. You really think the entire operation is about to close down and the State will have to take over the electricity bill for the containment unit. PKE activity has been trending down since the mid-90s, but hey... the franchise is yours.
When a slight upswing in PKE activity prompts a phone call, you answer. Because when shit happens and someone has to deal with it, Who ya gonna call?
