Panem et circenses - nice title
Schedule
Schedule
- Let's have 2 people cover the camp at all times between noon and midnight
- Main goal is to keep the tower safe and lead interactive sessions
- So 3 shifts, 4 hours each:
- 12pm-4pm (includes ice cream service, 1pm-3pm, intense)
- 4pm-8pm (airbrushing for safety, probably low attendance)
- 8pm-12am (includes GITD jello and fluorescent makeup, 9pm-11pm, attendance depends on placement)
- Big burns are Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun 8pm-midnight, so we will close early
- Totals:
- Mon, Tue, Wed: 3 shifts
- Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun: 2 shifts
- 17 shifts altogether, so each camp mate gets 2 shifts on average
The show
The show
- Ice cream (serving at lunch)
- Use large bowl, mix a large batch (a pound?), distribute, repeat
- Needs sound track, and space for a dozen people to watch, ideally protected from weather - carport type
- Quantities of stuff
- 100 people is a decent number to form a line
- Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun - 7 days, so 700 servings
- If you look at the ice cream label for Breyers at Sam's Club
- http://www.samsclub.com/sams/breyers-ice-cream-natural-vanilla-1-gal-tub/157916.ip
- they list it as 1 gallon size ($8), but 32 servings of 66g, which is basically just 2 oz...
- air/CO2/N2 plays a big role in making it appear 2x the weight
- Total is then 25 gallons, but only 100lb
- Don't forget the toppings (ideas?)!
- LN2
- Recipes
- Needs one large dewar (rental?), and one small one for actual work (buy?)
- Where to buy LN2 near Reno?
- Possible to make ice cream from dry ingredients (good recipe?)
- Dry ice
- Build giant cooler to store ice cream and dry ice (using polyiso foam and plywood)
- Recipes need crushed dry ice to avoid burns, manual meat grinder is the tool of choice guaranteeing the size of the grind
- Trivial recipe: http://chemistry.about.com/od/dryiceprojects/a/dryicecream.htm
- Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnORu5p9neY
- Richard Blais, also awesome "dragon breath" effect with popcorn and marshmellows: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/food/recipes/richard-blais-violet-dry-ice-cream/
- Easiest is to melt and refreeze store bought ice cream, need to run tests to pick the brand
- Recipes call for 1 to 3 or 4 ratio of dry ice to ice cream, so about 100lb of dry ice should cover our needs for cooling and for ice cream itself
- Where to buy dry ice in bulk in Reno? (ideally $1/lb)
Radical Fluorescence
Radical Fluorescence
- GITD (Glow in the Dark) Jello - serving after dark
- Show? Shapes? - sounds like precooking the whole thing is the easiest
- Recipe
- http://chemistry.about.com/od/glowinthedarkprojects/a/glowingjello.htm
- boil, mix, cool off
- can be pre-cooked in baking trays, cut into small cubes on-site
- whipped cream and sprinkles topping (anything else?)
- Quantities
- 2 oz of tonic per serving
- 3oz package of jello, 2 cups of tonic water makes 1lb of jello
- 100 people a day, 3 days, so 5 gallons of tonic, 40 3oz packages of jello
- green or blue jello powder
- Airbrushing for safety
- using our handy stencils, cover your gear or yourself in helpful texts and signs
