This emerging filed in Remote Sensing is my area of interest and domain of work. As I learn this subject, I would write on it here.
You can make use of the small tools I develop using MATLAB. Please feel free to correct me where I go wrong.
Analysis and Programming on HDF5
Most science data archival centers have patronized HDF5 files to store and transmit information. But today, none of the proprietary image processing softwares support this format.
I developed a small tool in C, to read and export IMS HySI (Hyperspectral Imager) data given in HDF5 by NRSC into an ASCII format that can be easily imported into any DIP software.
Visit Analysis and programming on HDF5 to view the technical documentation and to download the .exe file.
HySI Tools
Download HySI HDF5 tool to extract HySI H5 data into your digital image processing package along with header information.
Download HySI MATLAB scripts to extract and analyse HySI data
Essentials of Image Processing
Hyperspectral is an advancement in remote sensing, but it cannot be studied and understood in isolation. We need a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of image processing only then can we appreciate why traditional methods aren't suitable for HSRS.
In a nutshell I have explained the essential concepts of satellite image processing (excerpts from the Lillesand book) in this page.
