I am Atma Bharathi Mani, born and brought up in Coimbatore, (Tamil Nadu, India). I did my BE in GeoInformatics at CEG, Anna University (Chennai, India).
This is me, at office. I work as a Remote Sensing analyst. My job largely involves
My college - Guindy Engineering College is the main campus of this "world's largest university" and my school - Institute of Remote Sensing is the oldest school in India. It was created by the British way back in 18th Century and was named "School of Survey".
Surveying, the art and science of making maps was thought here by the Ordinance Survey of Great Britain, since at that time the East India Company needed a large number of surveyors to make maps of this country blooming in abundant natural wealth.
With time, the School of Survey grew into Guindy College of Engineering and since the past 30 years it has expanded to Anna University.
I cherish the fact that Institute of Remote Sensing takes direct lineage from School of Survey and my course on GI is supposedly the oldest professional course in the country.
information extraction from optical satellite images. We device new techniques and assess their efficiency. For the past one year, I had been working on a variety of topics including Cloud removal from satellite images, Vegetation Fraction estimation, and Waterfoot print analysis.
Currently I am developing custom tools using MATLAB for automating a large scale project. More on these topics can be found on the technical sections of this site.
My personal ambition is to contribute scientifically to the agricultural society of this nation. My solution is precision and sustainable agriculture. I am learning and working on this domain of Remote Sensing called Imaging Spectrometry which would eventually take me to my goal. This domain is highly demanding and I am relearning all my basics and getting equipped.
After my graduation, I worked briefly in the sprawling campus of Infosys, Mysore. I managed to learn a bit of programming and WebGIS, thanks to my division - Resource, Energy and Utilities (REU).
I found my passion for Remote Sensing and writing unquenchable no matter where or what I worked on. I was more than happy when I got selected and absorbed in ISRO as a scientist.
This is me at home. I live in a blissful den in the outskirts of South Bangalore. I do quite the same as what I do in office, just but in casual clothes. I love this subject - Earth Sciences and would spend the rest of my life researching this. I owe a lot to Prof. John R Jensen, if not for his book, my life wouldn't been so focussed. I relax on this bamboo chair and let my mind wander, for I believe, imaginations and retrospection is the mother of invention.
The symbol on the top left corner stands for "Geo Dexter", my nickname when I started blogging. Unfortunately Blogs did not give me the freedom to organize and host information the way I wanted to. Thanks to Google Sites and all those souls who vote for freedom of information.
I drew inspirations from my friends Suganya and Lavanya, my co-bloggers when I started my first blog. Today, they have come a long way in inspiring me to write and special thanks to my SpaceBoy - Shakthi Varman, for his site was a great inspiration, information source and benchmark for starting this site.
My thanks to everyone.
