That work proposed the parallel resonance type fault current limiter (PRFCL) to enhance the transient stability of multi-machine power systems. The transient stability performance of the parallel resonance type FCL was compared with that of the bridge type fault current limiter (BFCL). The total kinetic energy (TKE) of the generators in the system was used to determine the transient stability enhancement index. Also, the critical clearing time was presented as a stability limit. Simulations were performed by using the Matlab/Simulink software. Simulation results of both permanent and temporary faults at different points of the IEEE 39 bus power system indicated that the parallel resonance type FCL can enhance the transient stability of the system well. Also, the performance of the proposed parallel resonance type FCL was better than that of the bridge type FCL.
That work will be presented in 47th North American Power Symposium to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
