The world of headings in LC/PCC is divided into those which are established in the Name Authority File (NAF) and those which are established in the Subject Authority File (SAF), generally known as LCSH or Library of Congress Subject Headings. The list of ambiguous headings below is from the Subject headings manual, a publication of the Library of Congress.

This division has been controversial for art catalogers for decades. Someday, we may have an Entities Authority File which will cover all entities. In the meantime, proposals from art catalogers for LCSH must be proposed through the SACO Program. See also the tabs on Buildings and Ancient sites for more information on those topics.
