Thank you so much for considering adopting an older parrot.  Please read over this website to learn about A-Parrot's adoption process.  We have lots of unwanted birds waiting for good homes at this time.

Please go to our page  "ADOPT BIRD"     for more info.

You have reached a nonprofit parrot rescue and re-homing organization, a safe haven for parrots looking for a permanent home. If you are looking for a new home for your bird, please understand that our group acts as your "agent" to find a new home for birds turned over to our care.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is not a sanctuary.

We are not soliciting for parrots for our personal ownership, we cannot purchase your parrot, and we cannot start the "rehoming process" until birds are signed over to us.  Our agency does not "sell birds for profit".

To find the best homes for birds left in our care, A-Parrot Rescue has an investigative process in effect in order to locate a good safe home for them.  Our function is to  "adopt" birds out to qualified adults.   Our interviewers are all volunteers.

Please go to our page "DONATE BIRD"     for more info.

MEDIUM AND SMALL SIZED PARROTS. (Space here is limited for holding cockatoos or large macaws.)  We can take in the smaller of these species, though.

ALL MEDIUM SIZE PARROTS-- African greys, timnehs, caiques, amazons, eclectus, etc.

ALL SMALL PARROTS--Conures, ringneck parrots, other parakeets species, parrotlets, red rumps, bourkes (all grass parakeets), cockatiels, budgies, finches, canaries.

FLAMINGOS?   We will gladly accept  "unwanted"  pink plastic garden flamingos -- to add to the flock "decor" in our yard.

WE DO NOT TAKE IN:

No wild or outside birds, baby birds fallen out of nests, farm birds, game birds, swans, peacocks, toucans, mynahs, lories, doves, lovebirds,  or pigeons.  But we may be able to assist you with a referral.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's policies are in effect totally for the benefit of the birds released into our care.

Tentative Adopters will be "applying to adopt a bird".  We reserve the right to turn down or approve any application. Pls. read over this website.  We are looking for experienced parrot owners to adopt PARROTS to.  If you truly are, I am sure you will undersand the reason why we have certain adoption requirements.

A-Parrot Rescue does not ship birds, nor do we meet you part way for drop-off. We need to meet the actual adopter before adoptions are finalized also.   We do not adopt out parrots as "gifts" for adults or children.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc., Parrot Rescue takes the place of the Bird Placement Program.  BPP is closed as of June 2007.  Our same rescue team has been (and is continuing to find) new homes for unwanted birds for over 25 years.  Homes are located for parrots with consideration of each individual parrot's needs.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc.'s rescue birds are listed on Petfinder.com    Our current adoptable birds, pictures and bird personalities, are advertised there.  Feel free to keep checking our page there for bird updates... Be sure to CLICK  on the picture of the bird and read the info printed.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue also volunteers as a consultant to our city's Brecksville Animal Control Department for bird and parrot issues in the city.

(1)   A-Parrot to A-Flamingo functions as a parrot placement and parrot re-homing agency.  We are not a sanctuary for permanent place parrots.

 (2)  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue does detailed screening of qualified Adopters to be sure birds left in our care end up in the best of homes.

(3)  We adopt out PARROTS to experienced parrot owners only.  We will need a proof receipt the Adopter has owned a parrot in the recent past.  Several types of receipts apply.   Cockatiels, budgies, finches and canaries DO NOT require a proof receipt.

(4)  A-Parrot Rescue is not set up like a pet shop.   We are not open for public "bird tours".  Visiting appointments can be made AFTER an application has been approved by our Board of Directors, usually a fast process.

 (5)  Brecksville is the drop off and pick up location.

(6) A-Parrot to A-Flamingo will accept most older and problem birds, so we are looking for experienced parrot owners to adopt our parrots to, someone who has lived with a similar species of parrot and who honestly understands parrot "issues or quirks".

Serious potential Adopters must initially go thru our email interview "chat".    (This "chat" is not our actual application).  We explain our adoption policies further in these emails too.   Applications can be mailed out to potential adopters after we "meet you" via email first.

(8) Potential Adopters must contact us via email.   We do not interview by text, in person, or by phone.   Our email interview will explain further.

OUR MISSION

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, as a non-profit organization, is dedicated to alleviating parrot neglect and suffering, offering advice to bird owners to assist them in creating a good environment for their pet bird.   A-Parrot's goal is to promote safe and humane care of companion parrots and smaller pet birds and to rehome unwanted older healthy parrots that would possibly be euthanized because of their age.

We provide a safe haven with top quality care for the birds/parrots released into our care prior to our locating good homes for them.  We are registered as a "No Kill" organization.

DO YOU WANT TO ADOPT A PARROT????

*IMPORTANT:   A-Parrot Rescue does require a paper copy of a proof receipt showing that you have owned a similar species of parrot in the recent past.  Why???  This is the Internet and we really do not know the people who are contacting us to adopt a parrot.  It is wonderful if you are a multi pet owner.  But bird care is a lot different than owning a cat or a dog.

Several types of proof receipts apply.  See tab:  "ADOPT BIRD"

A-Parrot Rescue will be glad to answer any questions via email that you may have if you are undecided about what species to of bird to obtain.  We may have some website referrals for you also.

Please do not obtain a parrot (or any pet) without first finding out more about their quirks and care.   It is also important that everyone makes sure the species of parrot they are considering would in all reality be suitable for their home, apartment space, family, and lifestyle.

** Because of a large parrot's potential noise level, biting ability and possible aggressiveness (these are older birds we get in...), obtaining a macaw, amazon, or cockatoo as your first bird is not a good idea.  Also, these species are NOT apartment pets, as the potential noise level will cause neighbor complaints, and large parrot species may not be good around small children (Any parrot can bite…hard...at some time.)  Not all parrots will talk.  But we will get all the info we can about the parrot you are considering to adopt and will pass that info along to you.

OWNING A PARROT

A-Parrot can only adopt out Parrots to experienced parrot owners

Bird care is very different from caring for a dog or a cat.  Because of that fact, we have the proof receipt requirement as part of our parrot adoption process.  If you never owned a parrot before, A-Parrot could not adopt one to you.

How do you get parrot ownership experience?  You will need to get your first parrot from another source, save your receipt, and then contact A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue to adopt your next parrot from.

Potentioal bird owners should do their research on parrot species and parrot care before deciding to contact a rescue organization.  Visit pet shops and bird shows to check out species.  Use the Internet.  Listen to how loud a parrot may be.  Talk to bird owners, visit bird care forums on the Internet.

.If you are new to birds, you may want to check out other parrot rescue organizations than ours.   .

Every bird rescue organization has its own adoption requirements since we are all stand-alone organizations

See our page "ADOPT BIRD" which explains some of A-Parrot's adoption qualifications

INFO AND PICTURES OF BIRDS AVAILABLE

Visit our birds at our page on Petfinder.com:

  Petfinder's website

All birds are subject to prior adoption at any time.  The available bird list is revised as fast as we can.

We are looking for nice pet homes for the birds we adopt out.   You must be 21 years of age or older.  We do not allow breeding of any rescue bird one obtains from our agency.  We do adopt out to multi-pet, multi-parrot homes.

Other Adoption Contract conditions apply.  These are explained in our email
"chat".   Our rescue agency has the right to retrieve any bird if our adoption contract conditions are breached.

If one is not able to keep the parrot you have obtained from A-Parrot Rescue for any reason, you must return it to A-Parrot to re-home. Our rescue birds are NEVER to end up on Craigslist or any other Internet site!  Donations are not reimbursible.  We are looking for sincere parrot owners who will keep their parrots thru the end of its natural life.

LEG BANDS

Leg bands are NOT to be removed from any bird's leg that is adopted from A-Parrot Rescue.  That is your proof of ownership in case the bird ever gets loose for you and A-Parrot has a record of the band number also.

 FREE PARROTS, CHEAP BIRDS   ?

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is not a give-away site.  Any organization dealing with live animals will have daily expenses. We understand that money is tight for all of us right now  .... and this is especially true for anyone who runs an animal organization.

All pet owners must be able to afford the animals in their care. Also, a rescue organization MUST be able to afford the cost of caring for animals left in their care for re-homing.

Regarding macaws -- the expense of owning one macaw is at least fifty times that of owning a budgie.   Macaws eat a lot of expensive seed and pellets, plus fresh fruit, nuts. and veggies!  For any bird rescue organization, multiply that expense by many, many times  Besides feed expenses, there may also come into consideration having parrots vet checked.  Those expenses are reimbursable to A-Parrot when a parrot is adopted out to you.

Your kind donation takes into account the care of birds on hand at this time and future birds coming in to be rehomed.

REFERRALS AND OUR CLIENTS
A-Parrot Rescue is privileged to receive lots of referrals from previous clients, avian vets, other bird owners who can attest to our sincerity in finding just the right home for any bird released to our care.   Our clients have chosen and trusted A-Parrot to find a home for birds they can no longer care for for over 25 years.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is not a 501C3 organization.   To explain further, A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is on a "subfixed income", meaning we get NO subsidies or grants to run our agency.  Your donation goes for us buying seed, pellets, treats to feed parrots left in our care, and necessary vet care.  Every rescue organization will have some expenses, but feeding birds left in our care takes priority here.

Keeping the above info in mind, A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue must depend on private support for drop-off of birds and for adopting a bird from our organization.  Your consideration of a donation is much appreciated.
Seed and pellet donations, any brands, and plain newspaper are gratefully accepted also!

Thank you in advance!  End of commercial......

OUR CLIENT'S PRIVACY

Your privacy is important to us.  All info that we request of you stays in A-Parrot's files and is only used for placing birds in our care.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo, Inc., Parrot Rescue does not give out our bird friends' info. to any marketer, website, advertiser, company, Adopter, previous bird owner, etc.  This privacy policy pertains to our wonderful Clients, Adopters, Volunteers, and  Staff.

If you agree to our adoption policies as explained here so far, feel free to email us in order to start your EMAIL interview!   (we prefer email contact first, rather than phoning...)  Let us know something about you and your birds in your email.
