Bhaskara etttan in memories

Dr. Chamakuzhi Subramanian, Bangalore

My association with Mangalamkunnu was from my childhood. I used to attend “Karthika Vilakku” at Pariyanampetta every year along with my Valiyamma. We used to camp at the house of my mother’s cousin sister at Kammukkalam. Sri. Ramakrishna Guptan, elder brother of Sri. Bhaskara etttan was their neighbour. I vaguely remember the glimpses of Sri. Ramakrishna Guptan including his authoritative voice. At that time I didn’t know about Sri Bhaskara. Guptan.

Whenever I cut across Olavakkode Railway Station, mainly during week end trips to catch bus to Katampazhipuram I used to see him invariably coming out of his RMS office, adjacent to the railway station. He used to enquire well being at each of the occasions.

I was away at Bangalore, I came to know much later the attempt made by a committee formed by his initiative to buy HS Katampazhipuram and its sad part. Looking back, one can consider that it would have been a great effort provided they succeeded in their attempt.

As Bhaskara ettan desired that I could arrange the project work for his son, Babu Mohan, who was doing MCA. Incidently Babu did a good project in Software application area.

Next I had occasion to meet Bhaskara etttan during his falicitation connected with his book “Parvathiam”.

Since I had certain interest in Astrology, Bhaskara etttan used to discuss on his intention to do research on Chovva Dhosham. This has also prompted me to learn general things about Chovva Dhosham and its effects from him.

His interest in Shri Kannyaka Parameswari, made me to search for a book (in Hindi) and sent it to him.

Let me recall that I heard EP Bhaskara Guptan mentioning on Sri. Bhaskara ettan as one of the most brilliant persons in our community.

Bhaskara etttan’s cordial behavior and dialogue will remain unparalleled, I am sure for years to come. Bhaskara ettan was so well known that his name was written in the minds of a large cross section of people whom he had come across.

I have shared the above to show that Bhaskara ettan lives in my memories even now. That is an indication of his personality and impact of his ideas.

Dr Prahlad’s personal nature and behaviour at times thanks to Genetics, brings his father’s memories to me.

However, down the lines next generations may not remember Bhaskara ettan. Hence, there is a need for preserving his memories and make it available for the future generations.

My humble acknowledgment to a great son of our community who believed more in action.
