Below, the projects where I work or used to work are listed. Almost all the projects, where I have been active after my PhD, I have also (co-)acquired.

Horizon Europe funded  SoilWise: An open access knowledge & data repository to safeguard soils project will provide an integrated and actionable access point to scattered and heterogeneous soil data and knowledge in Europe, making them FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) and improve trust, willingness, and ability to share and re-use soil data and knowledge. 2023-2027.

The Horizon 2020 funded OntoCommons: Ontology-driven data documentation for Industry Commons project's overall objective is to bring together and coordinate activities of the most relevant EU stakeholders for the development of an Ontology Commons EcoSystem (OCES), consisting of ontologies and tools following specific standardization rules, that can be effectively used as foundation for data documentation in the industrial domain, in order to facilitate data sharing and valorisation and overcome the existing interoperability bottlenecks. 2020-2023.

Eurostars funded project WordLift New Generation aims to expand WordLift’s market reach by creating a new platform to deliver the features offered today to WordPress users, to any websites regardless of the CMS. We plan to improve the backend's performance enabling enrichment and querying of RDF graphs with semantic similarity indices and full-text search allowing clients of WordLift and Redlink to: implement semantic search and content recommendations on their website; integrate with personal digital assistants such as Amazon Alexa. Project partners are: WordLift, Redlink GmbH, SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH. 2020-2022.

Interreg funded project KI-Net: Bausteine für KI-basierte Optimierungen in der industriellen Fertigung. Das vorliegende Projekt entwickelt ein grenzübergreifendes Kompetenznetzwerk, das grundlegende Bausteine für KI-basierte Optimierungen in der industriellen Fertigung untersucht, erforscht und entwickelt, präsentiert und damit für KMU den Zugang zum gezielten Einsatz von KI in Produktions- und Instandhaltungs-Prozessen erleichtert. Dabei wird klar herausgearbeitet, welche KI-Bausteine/Methoden für welche industriellen Fertigungsaufgaben die passendsten sind.

Horizon 2020 funded project smashHit: Smart Dispatcher for Secure and Controlled Sharing of Distributed Personal and Industrial Data aims to assure trusted and secure sharing of data streams from both personal and industrial platforms, needed to build sectorial and cross-sectorial services, by establishing a Framework for processing of data owner consent and legal rules and effective contracting, as well as joint security and privacy preserving mechanisms. Project partners are: Institut für angewandte Systemtechnik Bremen GmbH, University of Innsbruck, University of Hanover, X/Open Company Ltd., Volkswagen AG, LexisNexis Risk Solutions (Europe) Ltd., Forum Virium Helsinki OY, Infotripla OY, Atos Spain SA. 2020-2022.

FFG-funded project (IKT der Zukunft - Ausschreibung DE-AT Datenwirtschaft) CampaNeo: Platform for Real-time Vehicle Data Campaigns develops an open platform on which private and public institutions can create campaigns and collect and analyze vehicle data in real time. The goal is to set up a prototype platform for secure campaign-based data collection in Hanover, Wolfsburg and in cross-regional scenarios, as well as the implementation of the first smart use cases based on the campaign data.  Project partners are: Volkswagen AG, University of Hanover, University of Innsbruck, CSTx Enterprise Solutions GmbH, momatec GmbH, Wolfsburg AG. 2019-2022.

FFG-funded project (IKT der Zukunft) DALICC: Data Licensing Clearance Center aims to design and develop a software framework that significantly reduces the costs of license clearance in the creation of derivative data works. Project partners are: University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten, University of Economics Vienna, University of Innsbruck, Semantic Web Company GmbH, Höhne, In der Mauer & Partner. 2016-2019.

Euregio Mobility Fund project REEeT: Research and Education Exchange in eTourism enables PhD, MSc, BSc students and staff of the partner universities to jointly take part at study programs in the three sites, with a focus on semantic technology and eTourism, explicitly including TourismFastForward conference in Mayrhofen, Tyrol, in spring 2017. Project partners are: University of Innsbruck, University of Trento, University of Bolzano. 2016-2017.

Horizon 2020 project ENTROPY: design of an innovativE eNergy-aware it ecosysTem for motivating behaviouRal changes towards the adOption of energy efficient lifestYles aims to design and deploy an innovative IT ecosystem targeting at improving energy efficiency through consumers understanding, engagement and behavioural changes. FFG-funded project (IKT der Zukunft) TourPack: On-demand Data-driven Production of Touristic Service Packages aims to build a linked data -empowered system for touristic service packaging. Project partners are: University of Innsbruck, Seekda GmbH, Redlink GmbH, m-Pulso GmbH. 2014-2016.

Start-up initiative ONLIM - A full fledge online marketing solution for touristic service providers, co-funded by CAST Gründungszentrum GmbH - Center for Academic Spin-Offs Tyrol, part of AplusB. 2014-2015.

Support Action in the Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the 7th Framework Programme: BYTE: Big data roadmap and cross-disciplinarY community for addressing socieTal Externalities. Project partners are 11 academic and industrial organizations from the EU; coordinated by Trilateral Research and Consulting, UK. 2014-2017.

FWF-funded project OntoHealth: Problem-aware Semantic eHealth Services designs a semantically enabled information system that fosters the collaboration of various health professionals, integrates the patient in his/her medical treatment, that is highly flexible and guarantees a high level of quality along the process of patient treatment. Project partners are: UMIT – University for Health Informatics, University of Innsbruck. 2013-2016.

FFG-funded project (IKT der Zukunft) OpenFridge: Opening and Processing Appliances Data for Energy Efficiency aims to design and develop a pilot simple and scalable Internet of Things data infrastructure, empowering building new services based on the typical home appliance data, e.g. data on the energy consumption of the fridge. Project partners are: FTW Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien GmbH, University of Innsbruck, Semantic Web Company GmbH. 2013-2015.

 

FFG-funded project (IKT der Zukunft) AgriOpenLink: Adaptive Agricultural Processes via Open Interfaces and Linked Services provides an extendible interface model for agricultural machines via an open-source library and a design methodology for adaptive process control based on linked semantic services and data, and verifies and popularizes these results in a user study targeting developers of ICT applications for smart farming. Project partners are: FTW Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien GmbH, Universität für Bodenkultur-Institut für Landtechnik, Josephinum Research, MKW Electronics GesmbH. 2013-2016.

ÖAD co-funded mobility project RESIDE: Renewable Energy Services on an Infrastructure for Data Exchange. Network of Excellence in the Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the 7th Framework Programme:  PlanetData: A European Network of Excellence on Large-Scale Data Management. The PlanetData project is driven by a consortium of nine partners from seven different European countries: University of Innsbruck, Austria; Stichting Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica, Netherlands; EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences, Switzerland; Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), Greece; Freie Universität Berlin, Germany; Jozef Stefan Institute (IJS), Slovenia; Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany; Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain; and the Semantic Technology Institute (STI) International, Austria. 2010-2014.

FFG-funded project (COIN) SESAME-S (SEmantic SmArt Metering – Services for Energy Efficient Homes) aims to design, develop and set on the market commercial services on the basis of enablers for energy efficiency, developed in the SESAME project. The project is realized by the consortium of FTW, a research center and four SMEs (from Austria, Serbia and Russian Federation). 2011-2012.

FFG-funded project (COIN) SmartReality has a goal of development of an innovative semantics-based and service-oriented framework for enabling new smart mobile augmented reality applications. The consortium is comprised of three Austrian SMEs and TU Graz. 2010-2012.

Project in 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, Cooperation, Article 169 initiative 'Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme': PeerAssist: A P2P platform supporting virtual communities to assist independent living of senior citizens. Project partners are: University of Athens, seekda GmbH, InAccess Network, Warp Networks, S.L., Fundación Instituto Gerontologico Matia Country, Municipality of Athens Development Agency, University of Innsbruck. 2010-2013.

FFG-funded project (COIN) SESAME (SEmantic SmArt Metering: Enablers for Energy Efficiency) aims to facilitate home owners or building managers (also referred to as users or end-customers) in saving energy within their environments and in optimizing their energy costs, while actively controlling and maintaining their preferred quality of living. The project is realized by the consortium of FTW and four SMEs (from Austria, Serbia and Russian Federation) bringing together various competencies and fields of expertise. 2009-2010.

Specific Targeted Research Project in the Information Society Technologies (IST) Program for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the 7th Framework Program: A Metropolis of Ubiquitous Services (m:Ciudad) . Project partners are Fundación Robotiker (ES) - coordinator, Telefónica (ES), University of Surrey (UK), Alcatel-Lucent (F), Valtion Teknillinen Tutkimuskeskus (FI), YDreams (PT), Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (D), ftw. Integrated Project in the Information Society Technologies (IST) Program for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the 6th Framework Program: Service Platform for Innovation Communication Environment (SPICE). ProtecNETplus program of FFG project SemNetMan (semantic based network/cluster management) combines two methods relevant for the knowledge society: the social network analyses (SNA) and techniques of the Semantic Web. The resulting method should enable efficient network management within the scope of project environments and related requirements. The project is realized by seven Austrian organisations from research to industry containing specialists from network management, semantic technologies and social network analyses. 2005-2006.

Network of Excellence in the Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the 6th Framework Programme:  Realizing the Semantic Web (Knowledge Web). Project partners are around twenty leading Universities in Europe and France Telecom to co-ordinate the industrial outreach. 2004 - 2007.

The National University of Ireland, Galway has been awarded 12 million Euros over the next five years from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to fund a new Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI). The Institute which is being co-funded by HP’s European software centre will be at the forefront of research into the second generation of web technology – the Semantic Web. 2003 – 2008.
