Competitive PhD Studentship Opportunities will open again in October/November 2025 (For study commencing October 2026)
I regularly invite applications for a competitive PhD studentship in my lab, which includes 3.5 years of living stipend, tuition fee waiver for Durham University, and research support. These positions are competition funded, which means that success will depend on the quality of the applications received for the project, relative to the applications received for other competing projects. The outcome is usually known in late February or March.
I am committed to developing a diverse and representative community of researchers in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I welcome applications from everyone, including those from traditionally under-represented communities, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups, people with disabilities, those who are neurodiverse, females, LGBTQ+, those of different faiths, and from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
For further information or to express interest in applying contact Dr. Andreanna Welch at a.j.welch<at>durham.ac.uk. I am happy to answer any questions you may have, e.g. about if you have the appropriate qualifications, what a particular project may involve, about the application process itself, etc.
I also suggest that all applicants check out my general advice for preparing your application, which can be found here.
