The 1880 Census shows G.W. Corbett and Thomas Whelan with farms very near each other and their children Loma and William at age 2. On the 1900 Census, William is a 22-year-old farm laborer on his father's farm and next door, Loma has also turned 22. William Alexander Whelan married Philomena Ann "Loma" Corbett on 20 Aug 1903 at St Bridget Catholic Church Vine Grove, Kentucky. Their children were Joseph Patrick aka "Pat", Raymond aka "Shug", Irvin aka "Preacher", Mary Lottie, Agnes Bernadine aka "Bernie" and William Wilson aka "Monk". All the children are living on the farm in 1920 along with Loma's mother Fannie Corbett. Next farm over is younger, half-brother Karl and their father Tom. On the other side is brother Gus Whelan and family with brother-in-law Fladge Corbett on the other side. By 1930, they are living on "Gray Hampton and Flaherty Road."
Later in life, they lived across the road from St Martin's Church in Flaherty. Loma wanted to be able to attend mass every day. Their original farm was located not far from Doe Run in Brandenburg and has been covered by the lake that is part of the Doe Valley subdivision.
Pat married Sallie Mills and they had children Patty Ann and Jim. Shug married Martha Powell and Monk married Wilma Ray. Mary Lottie married Crit Snyder and their son was Billie Joe. Bernie married Harry Brinson. Their son Irvin married Frances Roberts and was the only one of their children to leave Kentucky.
