Most important expectations are that you are RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and always have INTEGRITY. Give the BEST that you have to offer.
**Please be respectful of our time. Be engaged in what we are doing.**

1. Each class will begin with me collecting phones into a phone box. Phones will be returned at the end of class.
2. Come to class prepared. Bring your notebook, reading book, writing utensils, and completed work for the day.
3. In your seat and ready to work when class begins.
4. Be the BEST person you can be. Have a positive attitude and a willingness to be a part of the class.
5. Have an open mind and a willingness to learn, to share, to work.
6. Positive attitude and respect for everyone and everything in the room.
7. Proper Manners
8. Transition smoothly and efficiently throughout the block.
9. Chromebooks are not open unless directed . DO NOT play games during class. If you are done and waiting, take out your book and read.
Notebooks - (25%) - The writing in the notebooks will be done in class and can not be made up. The expectation is that the student will put full effort into all notebook writing.
Homework - (5%) - Also see late work policy, if your work is late without an extension...you can NOT make up the academic responsibility portion.
Academic Responsibility - (30%) - Arrive to class on time, and fully prepared. Participate, and be a part of the conversation and the activities. Cell phone placed in box for full class. Keep computers shut when not instructed to use them. Avoid playing games, shopping, or anything else on your computer when you are expected to be working with them. Avoid distracting side conversations or disruptive behaviors.
Skills - (40%) - All academic assignments will be broken down into the smaller "skills" that we are focusing on. Each skill will receive its own grade.
**LATE WORK - the key here is to avoid late work. However, life does happen. If you need more time, I am asking you to be responsible and ask for an extension. If you complete an assignment late, you need to print and then fill out the Late Work Submission Form (this can also be found on the Classwork Tab in Google Classroom). The filled out form will be turned into your classroom late work folder and graded on the next Wednesday
Thinking: push yourself to have an open mind and think critically while in class.
Reading:
A daily reading habit will increase your fluency, improve your vocabulary, improve your writing, and many other positive end results.
Writing:
You will be writing every single day! You NEED a 3 subject notebook and your Chromebook needs to be charged.
Listening and Speaking:
You will listen and share with those around you daily. We will work on building our communication skills with full class and small group discussions. You will also be expected to "confer" with me on your reading and writing OFTEN.
Assessments:
Grade less, but ASSESS MORE - Grading is NOT assessment. The goal is increasing volume of reading and writing. This will be assessed multiple ways. This is not about a number grade. It's about skills. It's about getting you reading, getting you writing, getting you thinking. This is about waking you up. This is about you becoming an engaged student. This is about you learning and growing as a reader and a writer.
Attendance:
BE ON TIME - arriving late to class disrupts your learning and the learning of every student in the room.
LIMIT TIME OUT OF CLASSROOM
WORK MISSED DUE TO AN EXCUSED ABSENCE IS A STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY. Use Google Classroom and communicate with the teacher if you need help.
Classroom attendance is most important. Many topics offered in class discussions are unique and cannot be repeated or made up.
Participation:
Class participation is essential. I expect all students to be engaged members of our classroom. Listen to peers and take an interest in what we are doing.
All members of the classroom community will be treated with respect.
Listen quietly and mindfully while others are speaking.
Maintain an open mind to the differences that surround you, and if we discuss diverse or sensitive subject matter, please find positive value in our differences.
Be an engaged student and put 100% effort into your work.
Be curious - ask questions.
Challenge yourself and grow as a reader and a writer.
