Mrs. Amy Roy

KHS English Department 2024-2025

English 1 CP/Honors and English 2 CP

WE ARE READERS, WE ARE THINKERS, AND WE ARE WRITERS.

This year RSU21 will begin the implementation of our new ELA curriculum. We are shifting from focusing on full-class classic novel reading to a model intended to increase interest in reading and volume. Students will read free choice books, theme-based book club choices, and full-class novels. We are also shifting away from a heavy focus on literary analysis essay writing to get the students writing every day and in various formats.  Finally, we will spend more time working on speaking skills through one-on-one conferences, small group discussions, group presentations, and personal presentations.

The 2024/2025 school year will be my 20th year at KHS and I will be teaching Eng. 1 CP/Honors and English 2 CP.  This year will be filled with a new curriculum we have worked hard to develop over the past year.  My expectations are high; I will encourage my students to take risks with their writing, challenge themselves with their reading, and push their thinking.

A little about me: In my spare time I love playing golf with my husband, practicing yoga at home, playing with my sweet cat Dory, and enjoying life and the outdoors. I am a mother of two beautiful young men. My oldest son, Caleb, lives in Florida and works for an event management and marketing company and my youngest son, Jonah, lives in Cambodia teaching English to kindergarteners.
