Other RPGs

Of course, we've tried out more games than just the few featured on this site - but these games are the ones which we played the most, or at least the ones for which we had to come up with the most home-made contents.

Decipher's The Lord of the Rings RPG

To counterbalance certain weaknesses accruing from the lack of playtesting, we've devised a variety of house rules for Decipher's The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game and put them together with a collection of other fan-written material in a handy compendium. Please follow the above link to check out the compendium and our collection of character and combat tracking sheets.

Rolemaster

ICE's classic "high fantasy" roleplaying game has never been the ideal system for a Middle-earth setting, even though MERP was derived from it. Check out the house rules we've come up with to compensate for some of the shortcomings of Rolemaster here.

HARP

The latest RPG released by ICE, HARP has a great potential as a system of choice for any Middle-earth based campaign. Please follow this link to examine our material for HARP.

The Middle-Earth Adventure Game (MEAG)

MEAG is a simple, though comprehensive, system designed for role-playing in Tolkien's world of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It's suitable for both players new to role-playing and experienced players. Learn more about the game here.

Decipher's Star Trek RPG

Like the Lord of the Rings RPG, Decipher's Star Trek RPG benefits greatly from a couple of balancing rules. We've also created a Narrator's Screen for the game because we were not able to find one when we started our first mission in 2009. Learn more by following this link.

Cubicle 7’s The One Ring: The Lord of the Rings RPG

The third and latest official Middle-earth roleplaying game, Cubicle 7’s The One Ring RPG is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2010 – which obviously means that their deadline is coming closer. However, from what is known so far, it wouldn’t be a real pity if they failed to meet the deadline. Apparently, the game will use 1d6 and have only three base characteristics (physical, mental, and spiritual). Even though there will be an abilities system and character classes, the One Ring RPG (which is going to be published as a boxed set) may eventually have more in common with a board game than a serious roleplaying game.

What is more, Davide Lammardo has revealed on our forums that “subsequent supplements will include the description of new geographical areas and game options and are closely related to the temporal development of the original story, where the company of the ring, however, never existed.“

Avid readers who speak Italian may form their own opinion by reading an interview with the author of the One Ring RPG, Francesco Nepitello.
