Artistic Director, Wanjun Qiao
Mr. Wanjun Qiao, is well known as a talented and experienced musical artist among the Chinese overseas artists in Boston and North America. As an award winning conductor in an international choral competition, his achievements and personal integrity have earned him high prestige in China and the U.S. He serves as conductor for the North American Chorus Association, Boston Eastern Heritage Chorus, and several Chinese choruses in Greater Boston, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. He has led chorus members to participate in international choral competitions and received distinguished awards: A Gold Prize of choruses and Best Conducting Award in the Vienna World Choral Festival of Adults and Seniors (2012), one laureate and two 2nd Place Laureate in the World Choral Competition in Montreal, Canada (2009), a silver and a bronze in the 4th World Choir Game in Xiamen, China (2006), and two grand awards in the 6th International Chorus Festival in Beijing, China (2002). He is president of Boston Chinese Performing Arts Association, president of North America Performing Arts Association, and president of Ocean Arts Association. Mr. Qiao has began his professional career in 1980s, upon receiving his undergraduate degree in Orchestra from the prestigious Central Conservatory in Beijing with academic distinction. At the conservatory, he served as president of Student Senate, head of Chinese Youth Symphony Orchestra, and a panel member of musicians in Beijing Music Hall. In 1993, Mr. Qiao came to the U.S. to pursue his graduate study with full scholarship and received his Master of Art in Music at Berklee College of Music.
Ever since 1985, Mr. Qiao has excelled himself as a promising artistic director and conductor. He worked in Beijing as director and conductor for the Classical Art Troupe and the Wind Instruments Troupe from 1986 to 1987. When working in the Youth Symphony Orchestra, he led his troupe overseas to perform in musical events. After coming to the United States, he has composed and published several musical pieces. Oh!, Hong Kong composed in the celebration of Hong Kong's return to China, was well received for its artistic creativity.
Since 1997, Mr. Qiao, as General Supervisor in Art and Chief Designer, has successfully organized various grand concerts in Boston and New England: China Today, Colorful Guizhou 2010, Arts in Beijing 2009, Yin Chengzong Piano Concert, 99 Bright Spring, Lu Siqing Violin Concert, Yellow River Cantata, and a series of great musical events.
Pianist, Kevin Xiao
Kevin Xiao has played piano for 17 years. He received his master degree in piano performance at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford in 2019. He also received his bachelor’s degree in piano performance at Hartt in 2017. Kevin has appeared as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician. Kevin has received the Hartt Talent Award, the Irene Kahn Piano Award, and the Mary Primrose Fuller Scholarship. In 2017, he won the American Protégé International Piano Competition and made his Carnegie Hall debut by playing Chopin’s Grande Polonaise Brillante in E Flat Major. Prior to attending college at the Hartt School, Kevin participated in the Hartt Community Division, where he performed in many of the student recitals and won the Audrey Thayer Piano Competitions. Kevin has been studying with Maggie Francis, Luiz de Moura Castro, and Paul Rutman.
