Student Test-Taking Strategies for Multiple Choice Vocabulary Questions
Rationale: This assignment allowed me to focus on a topic that I am interested in but had not had an avenue to previously study. Working on this with MJ was a result of some of the findings from our ACE Pilot Study last year. From the pilot study we learned that students were approaching the vocabulary questions differently that we anticipated. As a result, the ACE team went back and rewrote all vocabulary questions for all ACE passages. We had a lot of data that we wanted to analyze further and code, and this is how this particular article came about.

Egypt: A Special Education Policy Discourse Analysis
Rationale: I chose to include this assignment from my Independent Study Discourse Analysis course with MJ DeCarlo for several reasons. First, it is a topic that is important to me and quite relevant to my research interest and my dissertation. Secondly, it shows the natural progression from the policy elective I took last year with Bruce Levine, who was instrumental in providing me with the opportunity to not just develop my interest in policy further, but also helped deepen my understanding of policy, its implications, and the impact of both intended and unintended consequences. Working on this discourse analysis this year with MJ not only feels like a natural progression of my interest in the topic, but as also allowed me to learn about discourse analysis in general.

NSF I-Corps Teams Grant Project
Rationale: While I do not have any written documents from my work on ACE for the NSF I-Corps Teams grant, I do have our weekly presentations and our initial and final videos. I thought it was important to include them because I learned a lot from the I-Corps Teams grant and it allowed me to further develop my skills as an educator and researcher. The links for the two 1-2 minute videos can be found under the Projects tab.
