Post date: Jun 19, 2018 6:19:09 AM

An algae bloom of the species Pseudochattonella has been found (15th June, 2018) in Berowra Creek between the areas of Berowra Waters and Calabash Bay. The toxicity related to this algae species is unclear but blooms of this species have been associated previously with finfish mortalities. The algae involved will only affect fish.

If residents see any unusual occurrences of fish death please report the sightings to http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/habitat/threats/fish-kills or Fishers Watch hotline on 1800 043 536. Council will continue to monitor the bloom. Further sampling will occur once levels of chlorophyll-a decrease in the area.
