Holy Bread

I have always loved bread... I could live by eating bread and olive oil.

My bread story....

Everything started when I moved in Bath (Jan. 2018). Bath is a blessed English town because it has two amazing bakeries and beautiful hills which break the monotony of the plans that I had got used to in the central Europe. And even though, it is not the sea in the horizon that calms my soul, the view from the top is a fair reward when I climb these hills.

I remember my first winter in Bath. My aimless wanders around the small damp alleys... Feeling sad because of the squatting weather accompanied by my recent arrival in this unknown town. And then one day, the smell of the freshly baked bread, penetrated my whole body. My senses awakened suddenly. A familiar smell that made me feel secured. How interesting to rebirth feelings of security connected with memories and senses from the past.

That was it then... I became a regular customer of the Thoughtful Bakery. The time passes quickly and during the spring time I felt that I had energy for something really creative! I found in the bakery's webpage that they give one day classes how to make your own sour-dough bread. I booked it and followed it...

Playing with a dough is one of the most reviving and anti-depressing activities that I have ever tried. It just makes me happy, then it makes me angry again, and happy and so on! After the class, little did I know how to make a real bread though. However, I thought to give it a go... My first bread making attempt was a failure. I did not know how to use the gas oven properly, how to shape my loaf and I ended up with a weird semi-burnt creature, that my beloved partner ate with an honest respect for my effort. Then, some other trial-errors followed... but I had decided that I will not quit... I really love eating bread, and I wanted to learn how to make it by myself.

Bread making gives me a unique pleasure.. it is not like maths and proofs. Research really takes time and it does not have any real aroma. Bread, when ready, is a nectar. And it is not only this. I can share it with friends, guests and I can share my knowledge. But now I haven't yet finish the story, how my bread making training continued.

A month after my first home encounter, I realized that I live in the town of one of the most famous bread making schools! Bertinet! The decision was already taken, and I announced to Ville that I will follow the rather expensive (for my pocket) Bertinet's bread making classes!
