Late bustle fashions are often characterized by very structured construction, including puffed sleeve heads, structured pleating, and a very controlled, squared off bustle. This contrasts with the earlier bustle fashions, which preserved both the set-in sleeves of the crinoline and hoop ears, and which often had a more naturalistic puff and drape appearance to the skirts.
