Claudine Sews.
2014. Ceramic, underglaze, oxide, & glazes. 11"Dx 11"W x 10.5"H.
Claudine teaches women in poverty to sew dresses to support themselves and their families in the D.R. Congo. The form around her is inspired by traditional African pottery and decoration.
Reverands Peter and Yat.
2016. Ceramic, slips, underglaze and oxide.

These Sudanese Reverands were jailed and then freed during the time it took me to complete their tributes.
Asia Drinks Water in Pakistan.

Asia, imprisoned regarding her Christian faith, holding a cup of water with a bucket at her feet, since her ordeal involves water. The vessel around her is inspired by traditional ceramics & water vessels of Pakistan.
Soup Joumou- Haitian Independence Day.
2015. Ceramic, underglaze & oxide.
Stool is 10"D x10"W x10"H.
While in Jacmel, Haiti I learned about Soup Joumou from Fenel, a teacher there. He shared that Haitians celebrate their Independence Day by eating squash soup, something they were forbidden to eat when enslaved in the past.
Meriam has a Baby in Sudan. 2014. Ceramic, underglaze & oxide. 10.5"D x 10.5"W x 10"H.
Imprisoned for refusing to renounce Christianity, Meriam has her baby in prison. She has since been freed. The vessel and decorations are inspired by traditional Sudanese pottery. (Sold)
Bernard Rides to the Needy.

Bernard bikes to deliver school supplies, food and clothing to children in need in the D.R. Congo.
Benjamin the Optometrist.
2015. Ceramic, underglaze & oxide. 11"D x 11"W x 17.5"H.
At the Tandala Hospital in D.R. Congo Benjamin serves the needy as an optometrist.

This Haitian pastor has an amazing story,
including flying to the U.S. for life-saving heart surgery.
