While in Jacmel, Haiti I learned about Soup Joumou from Fenel, a teacher there. He shared that Haitians celebrate their Independence Day by eating squash soup, something they were forbidden to eat when enslaved in the past.

Imprisoned for refusing to renounce Christianity, Meriam has her baby in prison. She has since been freed. The vessel and decorations are inspired by traditional Sudanese pottery. (Sold)
