Notes: The pattern is one of many Export Wares to South East Asia in the late-19th century and given a 'place' name. Makassar is named after the capital of South Sulawesi, the center of trade for East Indonesia. Malay workers from the Spice Islands came to Makassar while European and Arab traders used the port as a resting point.
