--CIESIN, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), and the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) are helping the American Geographical Society (AGS) organize a fall symposium, “Geography 2050: Mounting an Expedition to the Future,” on Wednesday, November 19, at Low Library at Columbia University in New York City. Hosted by the Earth Institute, the one-day gathering will kick off a multi-year strategic dialogue on the vital trends that will reshape our nation and our planet now and onward through 2050, and identify the investments in data, technology, and capabilities critical to successfully navigating an uncertain future. Symposium sessions will focus on such key trends as populations, shifting identity, and well-being; climate, risk and opportunity; and the emerging geography of the Internet of things.
