2024 HDGC awards ceremony

We will recognize 2024 Research Excellence Award Winner, Dr. David López-Carr, Professor of Geography at the University of California at Santa Barbara, for significant contributions to understanding of population dynamics and land use/land cover change. Dr. López-Carr's work and impact will be described by Dr. Narcisa Pricope, Professor of Geography and Associate VP for Research at Mississippi State University, and B L Turner, Gilbert F. White Professor of Environment and Society at Arizona State University. 

We will also recognize our 2024 Student Paper Award Winner, Marlotte De Jong, PhD candidate in the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, for the paper “We Women are Suffering”: Fragile Water Infrastructure and Gendered Emotional Labor in Kilifi County, Kenya. 

In addition, we will hear updates and accomplishments from the winners of the 2023 Student Research Award and Student DEI Award, Ana Zepeda (University of California at Davis) and Sara Ghebremicael (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), respectively.
