AACE SoCal Section Virtual Meeting

Date: Friday November 16th, 2018                  Time: 12pm to 1pm

Presentation: The Ten Biggest Lies in Project Controls

Speakers: Glen R. Palmer, CFCC PSP and Christopher W. Carson, CEP DRMP PSP FAACE

While misinformation and poor schedule analysis conclusions can plague construction managers, some of the analysis and reporting problems are significant enough that they rise to the level of “lies.” Understanding the most frequently encountered lies will help construction managers and owners to better understand when there is a need to examine the analysis or schedule review reports at a much deeper level. This presentation will discuss the ten biggest lies in Project Controls that the authors have encountered throughout their careers. These lies will be examined using “Lessons Learned” from both project management and claims perspective. This perspective should provide a deeper understanding of the principal areas of schedule analysis and prepare the CM or Owner to better question and review the statements.

Speaker: Mr. Paul Self

Are you tired of building plans the same way for the last 20 years? Artificial Intelligence is reinventing the way we plan. The days of the tedious, manual process that defines developing a CPM project schedule are numbered.   Organizations are adopting and implementing AI techniques to quickly build plans, rather than starting from scratch every time, enabling planners to focus on planning instead of scheduling.

Mr. Paul Self has dedicated his career to the project management space. A passionate business leader who takes pride in understanding what clients seek from their business partners: honest rapport, trust, and the delivery of expertise in meaningful and relevant terms. Early in his career, he implemented and consulted on project management solutions for numerous Fortune 500 companies. Paul carries specific expertise in Aerospace & Defense, Government Contracting, and Energy markets and the nuances of how project management practices are applied within each. With this knowledge, he co-founded BASIS, software designed to drive plan realism through the perfectly balanced combination of artificial and human intelligence. Paul is currently the executive vice president of the schedule suite at InEight, which now offers BASIS as their flagship planning and scheduling solution
