David R. Wheat, F-4B Phantom, RIO, Vietnam, ex-POW

Commander David R. Wheat, USN (ret.), from Duluth, Mn was an F-4 Phantom RIO in Vietnam and POW. Flew with VF-41 on board USS Independence, CVA-62 during the last half of 1965. Shot down over N. Vietnam on Oct. 17, 1965. 7 years 4 months as a POW. Then continued to serve in the Navy until Dec. 1984. He described some of his experiences at An Evening With Eagles, Air Expo 2011, Flying Cloud Airport, Eden Prairie, Mn.
