Variations on Falling
When you finally admit you’re broken, I love you
for shattering. Hurt animal, don’t you still love
the myriad? Can’t you feel it coming like the rumble?
I was satisfied with haiku until I met you. I used
to like Nicole Kidman. I thought I had a window
seat. I could have been doing anything but I wasn’t.
Welcome, baby. This is the upside down—I dreamt
I was somewhere else, people looking at the sea,
perfect citadel wherever an ant is.
Come to rest, my darling. I would like to thank you
for my life. Broken river, you are not broken after all.
