Altitude vs. Latitude and their Relationship to Biomes

The tropics and the polar regions are related in that they have opposite amounts of temperature and precipitation available. This determines the organisms that will thrive or survive in these regions. Biomes are described by their temperature and precipitation profiles.

Biome distribution can be described in like manner. This helps us realize that the plaines of the USA and the steppes of the Ukraine and the pampas of Argentina have very similar temperature and moisture conditions; thus, like organisms such as corn, wheat, and soybeans.
