Conference History
Purpose
To foster Title IV-E funded agency/university collaborations that allow for curricula innovation, prepare social work students for professional public child welfare practice, and support long-term professional development for those working with and on behalf of children and families involved with the foster care system.
Design
Exploration of topics including national, regional, and state perspectives on child welfare, collaborative training models, caseworker support, and regional Title IV-E program evaluation results. The event provides participants the opportunity to explore programs, initiatives, and ideas through deep and meaningful dialogue. Participants who have attended the Roundtable in the past have commented that it is their favorite professional gathering because of the intimate and meaningful exchange of information.
History
The Center for Children and Families and the School of Social Work at Texas State University-San Marcos, under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Feyl-Chavkin and Dr. Karen Brown, originated and hosted the Roundtable for 14 years.The Roundtable expanded to a national focus from 2011 to 2014 under the leadership of University of Houston's Downtown Center for Public Service and Family Strengths and Graduate College of Social work.
