A Case:
Tells an interesting and appealing story.
Occurred within the last 5 years.
Includes quotes and personal perspectives of the participants.
Provokes conflict.
Forces students to make decisions.
Must be appropriate for the learner.
The resolution is open-ended. No set answers. Students make decisions and support them with their knowledge of the case.
Develop learning goals and assessments.
Introduce the case.
Form groups and initiate discussions.
Identify the way forward.
Guide the learning activities.
Organize presentation, mobilize discussion and provide timely feedback.

Among all student-centered learning methods, the case method uniquely immerses each individual student into the case situation in which the case owner is required, by using his/her resources most effectively and analyzing as much relevant information as possible, to make a decision for resolving the case. In the case method, each student is typically required to first go over the case individually, then collaboratively merge individual perceptions into an improved comprehension of the case through intense small group discussion, and finally communicate his/her insights in a debate with the whole class.
