Easter Fun Day April 4th

The weather was not on our side today but we had a great time. Helped by leaders, Jane, Joy and Sara, parents Arabella and Cheryl, Explorers Alex, Daniel and Olly and Dominic & Bryn and others.

The day got off to great start with putting up a tent to protect the wood choppers and setting up the cooking fires in the firewood shelter, so that the cooks could choke on the smoke.

Cowboy dinners were prepared after a demonstration by Alex Saunders of his chef and knife skills. These were cooked over the fires, whilst cakes were made and other activities enjoyed including mini-pioneering and map-reading.    The dinners went down well in the rather colder and wetter day than was wished for.    In the afternoon an Easter Egg Hunt hike was completed by all and small eggs were given to the winners.    During the morning we were visited by a representative of the Trusthouse Foundation, Jo with Kelvin from our fundraising committee.    If you weren't there then where were you we had a great time

Sad News for Old Scouts

Julian, Charles and Woody went to the funeral of "Dal" Dalmaine Milton Dewgard, our scout leader from the Sixties on Monday 6th Feb. He was 84 and had led a life of public service and care for others. He was born in Belize, and came to the UK when the vicar in his local town retired back home. Dal stayed with him at Brockdish and eventually got into engineering. He moved to Norwich and became a leader at 1st Norwich. Later he joined the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows and became chairman of a number of branches over the years. Then he was elected as local councillor and served his community there. Although he had been away from scouting for a long time his legacy of service lives on through those whom he had contact with.
