On Saturday 10 September 2016, I attended the Ekurhuleni Kayak Club (ERK) Annual Awards and Prize Giving Dinner Dance at the Grapes Pub and Restaurant in Benoni.

The evening was attended by some of the regular Canoe Club members and a large number of 1st Benoni Scouts and parents. I was immensely proud to be Scout Group Leader of 1st Benoni and a proud parent too. I am sure all the Scout parents who were in attendance were also extremely proud of their children's achievements at the recent Durban International Canoe Polo Competition which was held at Shongweni Dam, KZN earlier this year.

Our Scouts dominated the Prize giving evening after showing their Canoe Polo talent at the tournament. Jaryd Buchler was first up to receive the "Male of the Year Canoe Polo" award.

Next up was our Junior Canoe Polo Team. They are from left to right; Kyle Laxton, Gabriel Rowe, Stone Krynauw, Luke Barrable, Alex Webster and Devon Lacy.

Here on the left, they are seen receiving the "Team of the Year Canoe Polo" trophy from the ERK Canoe Polo Coach, Chris De Bree.

It's all about the bling:-

Team of the Year Canoe Polo.

Next up to receive a Trophy was Nicholas Weeks for "ERK Sprinter of the Year".

Nicholas represented South Africa at the 2016 International Canoe Federation Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Minsk, Belarus from 28 to 31 July this year.

Jaryd (on the left) is seen here posing with Chris and Nicholas, both who represented South Africa in the International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships in Siracusa, Italy from 29 August to 4 September 2016.

Kayleigh form Eastleigh Sea Scouts (on the left) and Savannah Johnson (second from left at the back) joined the other Canoe Polo award receivers.

Savannah received a 3 point Colors Blazer Provincial Scroll from her School for her participation in the Canoe polo Tournament.

Kyle Laxton on the right, also received a Colors Scroll from his school for his participation in the Canoe Polo Tournament.

Congratulations to all the Scouts for making us all at 1st Benoni Sea Scouts very proud.
